Why can't bad websites be banned?

I was just logging on to my computer and my homepage is MSNBC so I see this "Al Qaeda Web site targets Israel". You would think that access to this kind of trash would be barred by civilized society. Spare me the "free speech" diatribe. This website advocates criminal behavour, that is out-lawed in almost all societies.

Goal is destruction of Jewish state, it says
 
Who's going to ban it, and where? You'd have to get a lot of people to ban it to keep users off of it.

The supreme court has said it's free unless it results in imminet danger. You could possibly sue them for an injunction argueing they pose such a danger but the burden is on you.

I think it's much more of a logistics problem than a national or world consensus.

Besides, wouldn't Syria veto any UN resolution? 🙂
 
Without dumbassidiots in front of us, how else can we be reminded that there is indeed stupidity and worthlessness in the world?
 
All you have to do is get every router on the Internet to drop it from its routing table.

And then hope that no one does that for sites that you like.

no one is forcing you to goto these "bad" sites. besides you should be smart enough, to realize that they are not hosted in this country.
undoubtedly they are hosted in a country symathetic with their movement. sounds like you are one of these pro-censorship people.

we become like the chinese? you would then have no access to any oposing views, thoughts, or ideas of your government. forums such as this one here would no longer be an option for you because there would be the potential that someone might express a "BAD" idea or thought about something the gov. doesn't think that you should be talking about, for or against. i welcome these "BAD" sites as you put them, because being an intelligent and educated person, they give me the chance to see the views of others. without at least hearing the views of someone else how can you make an informed decision about anything? i have confidence in my self that i can make sound judgments on any issues that i come across if i have access to the pertinant information from all sides of the issue. o.k. i'm done rambling now...
 
why cant some really cool hacker f-up their site???? i wish i knew how to do it, id like see the FBI arrest me for hacking their site

They will, believe it. FBI has zero tolerance for these type of activities. Remember, seldom does the owner of the website actually own the server and bandwidth feeds -- they come from a provider who will be pissed to see their system messed around with.
