East coast is still far more humid. California's dry sun is a killer. Moreover, you don't have mediterrenean climate.. You have freezing @$$ weather in the winter, and blazing hot in the summer

What mentality? California is sunny.
The very North of California has weather similar to the state above it, Oregon. Cooler, more rain in the Winter. The coast of Northern and Central California tends to be cool and mild most of the year, although it can get hot. The Southern Coast is much warmer in the Summer. The Central Valley gets very hot in the Summer, and can get humid as well, although nothing like the midwest. The Sierra area gets snow in the winter, as does some places in Northern California. Then there are just plain hot places like Death Valley. There are also these microclimates around areas like Pacifica and Half Moon Bay which tend to be very cool almost yearround.
There is a lot going on in california.
The real estate market is definitely vastly overpriced in southern california. Though lots of people with lots of money come in and can afford the prices to some extent so the market can bear the prices. Southern California is one of a few isolated markets that have experienced amazing appreciation.

we have seasons, they just arn't pronounced. California is a pretty nice place to love (and because of that has downfalls like crowded in popular areas as well as high cost of living) but it's a state that is representative of it's nation. We have our metropolitan capitals (SF, LA, SD) and then we have the smaller suburban city's that our nation seems to be made upf of (San Jose, Fremont, Newport Beach, La Jolla, etc). We have mountains and the oceans within driving distance. We have access to wonderful nature and wonderful culture.
If you know where to look : you can find something for anybody in ca
and that's what makes it so alluringborn and raised in CA
Which is why people that have lived in California all our lives are the one's moving to the more rural or much smaller suburban areas. My parent's lived in the Bay Area almost their entire lives until they retired and moved to Salida, CA. My wife's grandparents lived in San Jose, before moving to tiny Chowchilla.

I can't believe everyone is talking about weather and not the fact that all the best jobs (outside of NY) are here. From the financial to technological market, LA and SF are the capitals for those industries. Plus we have the best public univerities in the world, and the population is more diverse than most of the US.
It boils down to this, California isn't for everyone obviously, people like what they know. I was born and raised here, I like it here. I've visted other states, and while there are places I would live, I would much prefer to stay in California. If Maine or Mass or New York is your thing, cool.

I think a lot of people from other states think California and they automatically think LA, San Francisco. California is a BIG state, there is a lot of rural communities in this state. I think a lot of out-of-staters would be amazed by the amount of farmland in this state.[/quote]

Agricultural Productivity: California is by far the number one agricultural producer and exporter in the United States. With 1999 production values reaching $26.7 billion, California produced more than Texas and Iowa combined?the nation's second and third agricultural states.
Drive up 99 and I-5. As soon as you hit the grapevine all the way through Sacramento you see farms and towns that are there because of them. Many of them stretching until the mountains on either side. It's one hell of a fertile valley.

LA is a large state from top (anything above SF is nonexistant) to bottom (SD). I think a major part of the reason people move here is because of the weather. The majority of our weather includes sunshine which means beaches are more fun to go to and the reason why we have so many beaches. The weather also allows us to dress a little bit more casual during the evening hours which means that nightlife is filled with girls with skimpy clothing.
The location is perfect because its close to near everything. The beaches are >1hr away, the mountains are >2.5 hrs away (Big Bear) or >1.5hrs (Mt. High) and you got Las Vegas which completely owns Atlantic City is ~3hrs away.
I don't want to experience all 4 seasons if one of them includes shovelling snow out of my driveway at 6AM.
My only complaint is the traffic. 1.5 hours for 12 miles is unacceptable! :|

i'm scared to go down there after hearing all the stories about bribing and being locked up in jail. not worth it for me.

ive partied down there a few times and even lived in rosarito for a short period of time. as long you dont f*ck around and act like a fool and do stupid sh*t, you should be alright. there are a couple times ive been stopped, and the car i was riding in was searched. yes, the police are corrupt. and yes, money speaks down there. but i was with stupid people pulling stupid crap, and luckily i speak enough to get myself and others out of hairy situations. but like i said, the vast majority of people who stick to the main spots and dont pull anything should have a memorable experience down there.

its not freezing in the winter, its rather mild. i've lived in places like calgary so i know whats cold. i'm not sure whats being missed. atleast in the north bay u just drive 4 hours to go skiing in the winter, much less if u just want to see snow.
yea, corruption, rapes, dissapearances.. its not pretty down there.
