What Klin said. I mentioned once before, where else can you go Snowboarding, and Surfing in one day in tolerable weather conditions.
California pretty much offers everything you want.

The people I've known that have moved there generally knew nothing about the state before heading west. I think there is still some sort of allure for young people, despite all the bad press the state receives. Fun-loving (and often politically left-leaning) young people head out there looking for like minded company, and are often driven back when they realize just how hard it is to get established there.

It's really difficult to explain. I live in the South Bay. We moved from Redondo Beach (renting) to Torrance (bought a home) because we wanted to be close to the beach, but still be able to afford the mortgage. The house is a measley 3-bedroom, 1750 sq. feet and two years ago, it cost us about $360K. I recently heard that it's worth over $500K. Living "close" the beach means that we don't use air conditioning during the summertime (albeit it does get hot! but not as hot as the Valley), we run along the coast, and just really enjoy all-year-round cool weather.
In general, I like the mutli-ethnic culture of Los Angeles County. For me, it's a more laid back and welcoming place than Boston or NYC (of course, I've only lived 6 weeks total in those two other cities)... It's also nice to live close to the beach communities (Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo Beach) 'cuz of the different stuff that you can do from day to night.

But watch out for the mudslides, wildfires, earthquakes and tsunami (one day). Vermont has none of them except depending on how you define blizzard. It gets cols here, but not that windy with all the mountains, unless you live on one.
I'd love to go to football games though. I wanna root for the Raiders at home.
Summer weather w/out the humidity. If I could stand humidity, I'd live in Miami where my company has an office.

I like the beach and resort-type weather as much as anybody... but I can only take it 2 weeks at a time (aka vacation - it's special). Do you guys ever get sick of it ? Do you guys wish you could experience the 4 seasons ? I love how one season makes you welcome the next season so much more. I personally can't imagine living in sun-weather everyday. Toward the end of my Hawaii and cruise vacations, I had "enough".

I guess thats the nature of the beast. Not ALL of us are though. A lot of people move here thinking its paradise and become bitter when they find out that it isn't all fun and games.
Honestly, I've considered moving out of state. But at this point all of my friends and family are here, and Im not willing to leave that behind just yet.
I think a lot of people from other states think California and they automatically think LA, San Francisco. California is a BIG state, there is a lot of rural communities in this state. I think a lot of out-of-staters would be amazed by the amount of farmland in this state.

Good point... I always forget about the skiing there. Though, I really imagine it to be one area... Lake Tahoe is it ? That's the eastern part, no ? The other confusing part is - that's right next to desert... 😕
NorCal and SoCal are still known to be all about "sunny CA". Where's this mentality coming from ?

Agreed, and that's why we are the most populous state in the nation. But truth is, CA is mostly SF and LA. If you add up the 2 metropolises, you have about 18 million people situated either in the Bay Area or down in LA region.
