Why buy an Xbox, open it, and return it? How about 3?

I was in Walmart last Wed. and I was looking around. I asked if they had a Xbox and the lady at the counter said she did and pulled one out from behind the counter. She told me that some guy bought three of them and then returned them Wednesday morning. I looked at the boxes and they had been opened. I asked if I could get a discount since the boxes were opened and they would not budge. I decided not to get one and went with a Gamecube instead.

So I was wondering why someone would do this? Do you think he took them apart and stole the HD or some other component and then returned them? It seems that this may be possible as not that many Walmart employees would think to check to see if it worked before accepting the return. I had the thought of the missing HD at the time which is why I opted not to get one. Are there any other components in there that would be worth anything besides the hard drive?

Or do you think that this guy might just have it out for Bill Gates and thinks that if he does this it will affect he and Microsoft's bottom line? I could understand if he bought them to try to auction and then found that he would not make that much so he just returned them, but why would he open them and then return them? I might understand opening one, not liking it and returning it, but not opening 3.

By the way this store was in Greenville, Mississippi. It had at least 6 Gamecubes as well. I got a black one and the lady had to go to the back to get it. They had 3 purples in the case and she brought out 3 black ones.

I was also in the Cary, NC Target store tonight and they had 3 Xbox's if anybody needs one still.

He might have been planning to sell them on Ebay but upon seeing how many Xboxes were on there, decided it was not worth the hassle.

The demand wasn't as high as they expected. When you play a PS2 for a year and like the games, why buy an XBox? I don't play games, though.

You have to remove the rubber feet and punch two labels to get at the screws, so I don't think he opened it.

Who knows what he did it for?

It is painfully easy to remove labels without showing any signs of removal, I love doing it with warranty void if removed stickers typically attached to cheapass HP and Scumpaq gear, first wash your hands with soap to remove any dirt/oil, simply heat it up till its VERY hot with a hairdryer and using a razor blade lift a corner of it and it comes off without hassle!! Then fudge with everything inside there and return it for service complaining that you heard something rattling in there and of general poor build quality :)

probabily Ebay...opened the boxes to show the contents in an image....you would think he could do that with one though.....

Either that or if Walmart has a restocking fee he opened them and then "said" they were all defective so that he would not have to pay the 15%
