Why buy a $40k car and a $150K House?? I don't get it.

Wow, that just goes to show how much property costs/values differ in different parts of the country...around here, a $150K house is damn near the highest it goes--the 'nice' houses are half that.

It's good that you can admit it, the question is when are you going to change your behavior and alter your priorities?

I've never had a problem admitting it, just changing my behaivor and sticking with it is the difficult part.

With mortgage rates at under 5%, if I can get approved for a home loan I may have to go COLD TURKEY and find a part time job.

i think some people are missing the point. the point is not how much money you spend, but that a Car is an EXPENSE a house is an INVESTMENT.

if it hadn't been for my house i would have paid 12k in taxes but because of my house i got back 4k. so, it's easy to justify the expense of the house when it makes that big a difference on my taxes. 🙂

Haha I have you beat! 😉

I have a 5k car and a 700k house too lol.

DUDE! I want to see pics of a 700K house. Or atleast know how many bedrooms such a house has and how big it is.

Wow, 150k is a bit on the cheaper side. Here if you can afford 40k car, you probably have a 400k+ house.

argo, that's kind of my point, people leverage themselves out of the market for a decent home so that they can have a nice ride. i've seen it a lot. people in my neighborhood, won't even buy his 7 yr old kid a decent bike (always borrows from friends), bought one of the cheapest houses in the neighborhood, has his brothers and sisters living with him tho he has 2 kids and 1 more coming and yet drives an M3.

Where abouts in PDX?

Because people are stupid. Instead of living in a 150k house and driving a 40k car, they could take that 190k, turn it into 500, and then have a 400k house and a 100k car 😀

Sure I just took some shots not too long ago. I'm not completely done with it yet. The sun room with the spa isn't installed yet and the yard isn't finished either. But you get a good idea with these two pics:

It's 4300sq, 4 bedrooms, 2 offices, bar, party room, sun room, suna room (spelling? lol), and a threater room. Now by no means am I or my family rich or anything like that. Just that if you work hard for a while, you can do just about anything. 🙂

Speaking of which, I'd love to see a thread on people's houses. We are starting a business building homes and that would really give us some ideas perhaps.

Wow, you have a beautiful house! I noticed you live in Portland, what area is that? (I don't want to stalk you, honest 😉)

Thanks for the kind remarks guys!

If you who are local know where Clackamas Town Center is, I'm over there in the hills (Happy Valley).

DAYUM amd i had a friend that lived in the SAME neighborhood. OMFG.

i don't remember the street address but i remember seeing your house as i went by to my friends house.

this was like 12 years ago. tell me if i'm wrong. mb the house is newer than that.

but i'm pretty sure i've seen that house before.

For an expensive car, do some research and sign a good lease. Then you can trade up in a few years. If you know how to lease, you'd end up paying much less for the same car someone would pay alot every month for should they buy.

For a house, buy don't lease.

By leasing the car, you can now buy a better house with the money you saved.

Gotcha. My boss bought a nice new place recently a little further south down 205.

I say the next Portland ATOT get-together will be at AMDSoldier's place, who's with me?!? 😉

dayum, all this portland talk is making me homesick. i lived in portland for about 4 yrs, got my bachelors degree at Portland State U.

btw, amd, my friend lived just off sunnyside rd, don't remember the exact street but it was very close to happy valley.

LeeTJ,

Hehe nah couldn't of been this house, cause were not done with it yet and just moved in about 3 months ago. 😀 But I've seen this style of house in quite a few places, must be a popular design I guess.

BigSmooth,

It's a nice place yeah. But I think just about all the lots are sold now. So lots of builders have to move elsewhere now. Which kinda sucks if your in this business. 😉

$150,000 can buy you a pretty nice house in Pocatello, ID. But then finding a decent job so you can afford a $100K house in Pocatello is a challenge in itself.
