AMD A10 laptops cost around $750.

You can get a Lenovo Y570 for like $500-600, and it will offer better gaming performance.

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/laptops/ideapad/y-series/y570

Lenovo Y570 ~999$ (from their own site) (IdeaPad Y570 Laptop - 08626FU (cheapest config))

Intel Core i5-2450M
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 1GB

Im not sure how best to compaire their 3D performance, but if you look at "3Dmark 11":

Lenovo Y570 (i5-2450M) (/w Geforece GT 555M) = scores 1162 points
AMD Trinity A10-4600M (just IGP) = scores 1149 points

So their pretty simular in 3D performance (atleast in this benchmark),
dispite the Lenovo Y570 comeing with a discrete GT 555M.

I cant help but think, haveing a discrete card instead of a IGP puts you at a disadvantage when it comes to power effeciency.
Meaning the A10 laptop could probably play games for a longer time than the Lenovo, if they both had equally big batteries.

Lets see:
Lenovo IdeaPad Y570 (08626FU) 15.6" laptop ~999$ (on their site)
Intel Core i5-2450M Processor
4gb DDR3 (1333)
500GB 7200 rpm
lithium ion 6-cell 48 Wh
weight: 6 lbs

TOSHIBA Satellite S855D-S5256 15.6" laptop ~699$
(on newegg)
AMD Quad-Core A10-4600M
6gb DDR3 (1600)
750GB 5400 rpm
6 cell/48Wh Lithium Ion battery pack
wight: 5.3 lbs.

^ the A10-4600M would probably have slightly better battery life when watching movies, or playing games.
It would be lighter and cheaper, and come with more storage space and more ram(that run faster).

The Lenovo would come with a faster CPU, for CPU bound tasks, if you use your Laptop for demanding work.

(if what I could find just googleing is correct)
To me the A10-4600M Laptop here looks like a decent deal.

Last A10 laptop I saw was $549 at bestbuy. I almost took it home with me.

@Karmypolitics

Yeah but the GT555M is rated at 35watts TPD, same with the i5-2450M also 35watts.
The A10-4600M is rated for 35watts TPD (both cpu+igp), so its useing half the power.

Makes sense its abit slower.
Also doubt they used a i5-2450M when they ran those benchmark's for the GT555M,
but probably a beefier CPU, that makes the 555M look better when compaired to the IGP of the A10-4600M.

For purposes of compaireing the Lenovo IdeaPad Y570 (08626FU) vs TOSHIBA Satellite S855D-S5256.
Also there is a 699$ vs 999$ differnce (300$ is a ~42% increase for a 699$ product).

A10 isn't much faster than the A8 in 3D, which can be had for $4-500, no contest, Trinity wins in the value department. I'd pay an extra 200 for a discrete card that's actually WORTH it, unlike the ones mentioned in this thread.

Yup. That's why Trinity is useless to me. It's mostly hype. Trinity works better for emerging markets or to target budget market segment < $500. At $550-600 it makes no sense.

If you want a laptop that can play basic games such as SC2 and Diablo 3, what you want is GT640M or some other AMD discrete GPU. A10 + HD7660G is pretty much awful against an i5 + GT630M / 640M.

The only way Trinity laptops make sense is if you are on an very strict budget of $400-450.

Here is a $600 laptop with i5 + GT630M. That's not even a special deal on an i5 + Kepler, just a regular price.

The worst part about Trinity is not only do you get a slow GPU, but the CPU is also slower than Core i5. So it's the worst of both worlds.

The A8 has four full fledged cores vs. the 2 you linked, try again.

Seriously? Comparing CPUs based on the # of cores? :hmm:

Sandy Bridge is much more efficient per core than AMD's competing CPUs, including Phenom II, Athlon II and Bulldozer architectures. Sandy Bridge is at least 40-50% faster per core than competing AMD architectures:

t4.png

Intel Core i5-2450M is a dual-core HT Sandy that turbos to 3.1ghz, ranked #55 on the CPU list vs. #105 for A10-4600:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html

3dMark06 CPU
i5 2450 = 3433.1 (+19% faster)
A10-4600 = 2873.5

Cinebench R10 32Bit Single
i5 2450 = 3868.3 (+85% faster)
A10-4600 = 2087.5

Cinebench R10 32Bit Multi
i5 2450 = 8492.8 (+47% faster)
A10-4600 = 5770.5

Cinebench R11.5 64Bit
i5 2450 = 2.7 (+35% faster)
A10-4600 = 2

You may want to take 5-10 min to brush up on A6/A8/A10 CPU reviews.

In summary, the Trinity CPU performance is junk. Even a Core i3 2120 beats Trinity CPUs and Phenom II 965 for games ==> http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/prozessoren/2012/test-intel-ivy-bridge/14/

BTW, the laptop with a Core i5 2450 CPU I linked has even faster CPU performance than the Core i7 2637M (dual core HT 1.7ghz / 2.8ghz Turbo) that I linked earlier or the i5-2410 in these charts:

You get what you pay for. Trinity has worse CPU and GPU performance than pretty much any basic Core i5 2000 series w/Hyper Threading + GT630M combo. Other than the price and power consumption, there is really nothing positive about Trinity.

Dang, I wish that laptop was for sale for that price when I was shopping for mine. That is a sweet, sweet deal on a laptop.
