why bother buying Sempron?

going by neweggs retail price...why would anyone buy a sempron when they could get a low end barton for virtually the same money?

Your using a socket 754 or 939 board and may want to upgrade to a 64bit processor later on.

Thought they had socket 754 versions. The sempron is about $10 cheaper that the XP.
2500+ semp $78
2500+ bart $89 has 256K more cache

They all run @ 333 FSB, but most of the XPs before the 2500+ barton dont. That is best I could figure. I would also like a more solid answer, cuz i was lookin at getting a Sempron for my GF's new computer.

They do...however I would pay $140 for an Athlon 64 2800+ before I would pay $129 for a Sempron 3100+ but that's just me...
