Why Atom sucks

if you axe me, atom is a really damaged brand at this point. when you think of atom, you think of computers that respond 20 seconds after you click. netbooks are/were a useful form factor, but atom and low res screens killed them
 
which most certainly was due to the crappy hdds those netbooks shipped with and not atom itself.

That is probably part of the story, but not all. I replaced the hdd with an ssd and it was still pretty awful. Had about the same subjective effect as bumping the memory up to 2gb from 1gb.

I think there have also been memory and igpu improvements. This coupled with Win8 leads to a big boost in subjective performance.
 
Atom with Android or iOS would have been a decent match instead of Vista. Vista is only ok on a recent desktop dual core with a 7200rpm hard drive and patience.

Atom is as damaged as celeron, and that takes awhile to recover from, if it ever does.
 
45nm atom is an old design and was also a first generation product. I don't know why people would be expecting very good performance from it.
