not to add that unesco did give us army the location of all the site with historical/cultural significance
but it is true that us army cant protect all of them
they will look after their own security
fo them these are not of historical or cultural importance

Let them loot. If you were living in the conditions they are and are dirt poor you'd be out there looting too.

Sure, a lot of the looting has been symbolic, raiding goverment buildings and palaces... but obviously its beyond that when these people are destroying their own history.. I'm not much for religion, but apparently mass amounts of some of the most valued Arabic scrolls and scripts were all looted/burnt... a lot of the priceless ancient jewlerystolen from the museum was melted down right on the street, just to have SOME wealth.

FYI: the museum had 22,000 items and some have already been returned. There were also rumors that the US was going to steal the items so the Iraqi's took them to stop them. Anything that was to big or heavy was destroyed.

These are very Paranoid people.

Also not mentioned was the fact that the soldiers were very tired after fighting a three week war and sleeping in the dirt. I don't think they were really prepared to start policing right away.
