Why aren't there forum rules stickied?

It seems that the mods just kind of willy-nilly administer thread deletions and bannings. They'll lock a thread and leave a comment like "keep this kind of crap up and you'll get banned".

But they seldom offer any useful input as to their reasoning or what the poster did wrong. Can we get a sticky for rules, or if we have one i'm not seeing, point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

We do not have time to write and maintain the Encyclopedia Anandtech.

Anything less would then have people that are being banned complaining that it is not in the rule book.
Others would be scheming a way to get around the rules and making our work even more difficult.

Therefore as others below have stated, common sense is the best policy.
If you would not advertise/discuss it at work, home or your parents, then take it elsewhere.

This is what i've noticed... common sense can only go so far b/c without rules to hold both sides accountable, and are not subject to the mood of the person holding the banstick

Err on the conservative side and you'll never have an issue.

wich is pretty much true.

yup.

person a can get banned for X while person b can do X every time he posts and get away with it.

The mods here, annoying as they can be sometimes, generally do the right thing. If they were hamstrung by a set of explicit public rules, a number of people would probably make it their hobby to try to weasel their way around those rules, preventing the mods from effectively doing their jobs.

Exactly. I'm against government power, but AT is private property and unless Anand wants to set explicit rules, we're doing fine as we are.

How is it the wrong forum? This question is mostly specific to OT

dude, you already got the n00b of the year award, are you trying for n00b of the decade?

You think you're cool with you 44k post or something? Who gives a crap if someone online calls you a n00b. At least i'm trying to learn the rules so i don't break them.

Get a life man, there's more to life than your forum post count. Having tons of posts doesn't make you cool.

it's a legitimate question. i'd like to see a set of rules for the n00bs who don't know them at least.

how is it more legitimate today than the last three hundred times this has been discussed?
things are the way they are and that way for a reason, as far as we know

how about a lock on this
i don't think the OP was around the last 300 times it was discussed.

sometimes we find out "the rules" the hard way. some guidelines would be nice. that's all i'm saying so cop your attitude.

and where are the rules? granted common sense will take you a long way. i agree with mosh. a sticky with the them would be nice.

and the hundresds of other post should give a clue they are needed.

A sticky with the things common sense simply won't tell you - like no price checks are allowed, nested quoting isn't allowed, etc - really should be put together.
