Why aren't there any fast food Italian places?

We used to have a place up here called Mrs. Vanellis. Was mostly in mall food courts though, I don't think they had standalone joints.

Now it's Microwave dinners. Probably the same thing, they just decided to sell directly through grocers. (I never heard of the actual Vannelis food joint, just the frozen dinners...which are passable pasta)

Most fast food is bastardized and Americanized versions of existing foods, and mostly designed to be eaten on the go. Standard Italian cuisine is not easy to eat in the car, unlike what fast food companies have done to Mexican food, for instance.

Pizza is fast enough and ubiquitous. So except for a few fast-casual companies, you aren't likely to see a national Italian fast food restaurant without a clever menu or way to repackage and quickly make not just Italian dishes but stuff you can eat while driving.

Ah, I see. I think the food court places went away a while ago; had no idea they had moved into frozen grocery.

Oops, I had confused Mrs Vanellis with Michelinas, so I was wrong. A Google showed that the Restaurants still exist in places, but no frozen foods.

So ya, stupid memory.

I've often wondered the same thing about Chinese, Japanese, and Thai cuisines.
