WHY AreN'T the Forum Rules Enforced in "War/ME"?

I'd say it is getting out of hand and yet personal attacks ARE being tolerated.

I know the issues are emotional BUT could we have a modified "enforcement"
Instead of banning the offender - give him a 6-24 hour "cooling-off" period. That will take some of the "heat" out of the forum.

I could post examples, including attempts to defeat the word filter but the posts are simply deleted by the Mod on duty.

And I have ALSO been guilty of "attacking" (self-defense being a possible excuse) and would not mind (in future) having a "time out" enforced for a REASONABLY SHORT period. I'd say it'd TEACH restraint and respect.

Whaddaya think?

I dunno.. sometimes the mods "forget" about unbanning people after the usual 2-week reprimand. If they started doleing out 6-24 hour punishments that would require that much more effort to unban them on time, and I can see people getting lost in the melee.

Zuni mentioned there is an AUTOMATIC feature in the new forums that allows for a "preset time-out". I am just suggeting we USE this feature for short time-outs to keep thing there "on-track".

Or was I "imagining" it?

I guess it is not so important as the war news gets better . . . I hope the flaming will be kept in check.

Anyway, what I am suggesting could be applied to any forum . . . instead of AT's traditional "banning" - which is severe - a short "cooling off" as a warning might work really well as an example or "taste" of what a ban is like.

If implemented, it should use the automatic feature to adjust the time-out to the severity of the offence where they get an automatic PM explaining they are forbidden to post until XX:XX hour and the ban is automatically lifted at that time. Might make LESS work for the mods.

;)

Just a "mini-suggestion".

Sounds like a good idea for the forums in general. Short (6, 8, 12 hours?) "time outs" to keep people in check instead of warning, warning, warning, warning, BAN.

EXACTLY!

It happened (again) last night . . . the "mellow-lax mod" tolerated a certain member for the his IDENTICAL negative comments, day-after-day. The "short-tempered mod" evidently was on last night and called him/her a "troll" - for an even MILDER post (than usual) and said you are "gone forever". :p

This would help make applying "forum discipline" easier and more even. ;)

apoppin - Considering that many of your posts are "troll" posts at best, you might be the next to be banned if the mods enforced the rules the way you think they should be.

I think the War forum is doing ok and probably doesn't need any additional "modding".

I'd say Appopin posts plenty of good posts.

Though I'll admit I don't look in OT very often.

Thanks, but this is specifically directed at the "heat" in War/ME. Michael simply doesn't read my posts as evidenced by all his replies to me. He has made up his mind the way he views the world is the only way. And I'll be glad to continue to forcefully disagree with him in future. ;)

I'd say he completely ignored my post:

:p

(in concluding) I just say "Banning is too severe" - at least for the first few times - for the supercharged emotionalism of the War/ME forum. ;)
"Warnings" are almost never given by the mods (or even seen by the poster) - you are more likely to be surprised by a "ban" - possibly permanent depending on the "mood" of the mod. :Q

Link, Please!

:D

(I have been spending too much time in the War/ME thread).

I'm sorry, I really don't ever remember sayiing you were nuts. If I even hinted it, I apologize.

What I "think I said" was that some "slack" should be cut because of the raw emotionalism of the topic. AFTER THINKING HARD ( :D ), I came up with this suggestion of a "time-out". AND "search" has been "intermittent" so I have not been able to find some threads. (my poor excuse)

;)

apoppin - a "time out" is a ban. I read your post. Like normal, you only read what you want to see.

I don't really care what you post and am fine with you posting your "stupid" opinions. I'm just pointing out that you're probably just as guilty of what you're whining about here. That includes personal attacks.

Why don't you join in? . . . you have some pretty unique views (on everything) it seems. ;0
(actually the above IS a complement)

:)

Yes, I am a 24-hour-a-day caregiver for a family member (for the last 3 weeks) and the "War" discussion is intense enough to take my mind off my other personal problems. ;)

Besides, it is a little "slow" in GH right now . . . I am still reading the topics.

Thanks, Michael - I know (you also have a "gift" for stating the obvious) . . . I am arguing for a SHORTER ban . . . we could call it a "time-out" or a "ban" (it makes no difference to me).

I am also fine with your (______) opinions. I have ALREADY pointed out - long before you "confirmed it" - that I AM guilty (read: self-admitted) of "what I am whining about here". :p

Then you would be bringing all the cr@p back to OT.

Yeah OT has enough crap without adding serious discussions (and the flames that go along with them ) to it.

I remember (the old thrread) now!

I didn't call anyone nuts! :p

The War/ME forum is the BEST thing that EVER happened to OT! I "vote" for a Political Forum to remain in it's place after the war is over (and in the thread I "forgot", I half-jokingly suggested a Religious Debate forum that I could "block" from view). ;)

:)

This is a private forum on a computer hardware site. I would be totally in favor of closing the war forum and locking all war threads in OT. They all end up the same and contribute nothing of value.

You DO know that you can BLOCK the War Forum from appearing in your drop down list? ;)

Sometimes - albeit rarely - there IS something worthwhile posted there. At the LEAST, I bet it is a POPULAR forum. The GOOD thing is that the idiocity is CONCENTRATED in ONE place. Locking War topics indescriminately (if the War forum closed) - would be a DISservice to AT members (IMO).

It wouldn't be a problem if the mods enforced their own rules. But they don't, hence my suggestion.
