It seems to me that one of the following is true:
1) religion makes people meaner
Yeah, I heard Mother Teresa turned into a real bitch after she became a nun.

LMAO someone probably gonna make that into his/her sig.

Regardless, everyone's human. We all make mistakes and have our flaws. I think you're just holding religious people to a higher standard than non-religious people.

Neither of whom are religious I might add. So I guess, in your context, it's true. Let me add Kobe to the list (who also isn't religious).

Sigh... it's so hard to have a real, serious discussion on ATOT. I don't know why I try. Maybe someday I'll get a sense of humor.

Religion has nothing to do with how nice someone is. Certain people are a certain way, religion won't change that.

Meh -- we don't typically hire Christian people anymore (carpenters/etc)..due to several bad experiences (we were ripped off on our last house purchase by a Baptist family)..and we're Christian..heh.

The last carpenter we've had here said that he doesn't hire Christian people anymore since they all have stolen from him. Go figure.

Which leads me to a great saying I heard off NYPD Blue, but always knew:

"And I'm the pope. See, saying it doesn't make it true."

Millions of people claim to be christian and aren't.

As much as I dislike the Mormon religion, they're really nice people. And I can think of a number of people that I know that are atheist/agnostic that are fvcking asshats.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the reason Mormons tend to be outwardly nice is because it is a family religion. But try getting a job in a mormon-ran town and tell them you aren't mormon and see how nice they are about that.

mormonism is the only religion that always seems to have NICE people. aside from that, i see no correlation btw religion and niceness

I am not much of a Christian person myself and I have noticed that I have seen more intolerance from non-religious people than religious. ATOT seems to be a great example of this.

you tell me if a fanatical muslim is nicer as he cuts off your head

The only time a real muslim would cut off your head is if you commit murder in Saudia Arabia (and are found guilty). The terrorists aren't real muslims just like Timothy McVeigh wasn't a real christian.

I guess I'd put it this way: the true Christians I've met are far nicer as a group than the (non-Christians + fake Christians) are.

Most practicing christians I know are nicer on the outside than non-christians, however if you get too close or too deep it can get pretty ugly.

I work at the national headquarters of a major (Christian) church, and since starting my (IT) job here I've met some really nice people in the building. Of course, there's the odd one here and there who isn't so nice, but on the whole it is a friendly environment.

In my experience, religious people have been rude, inconsiderate, impolite, ignorant, condescending, and pretentious. While not to say that there aren't those type of people on the other side. The religious side just has a higher precentage of those types.

all the atheists I know are pretty mean and bitter folks 😉

in terms of niceness, I'd say non-religious, non-atheists > religious > atheists.

Is it just me or is that a contradiction in terms?

you can believe in god without following any specific religious doctrine.

Crazy.

I've found that the SERIOUS religous people I know have some sense of 'higher authority' and basically since they follow the one and old god (or as it pertrains to their religon) they have some holy ordained right to sh!t on everyone else because what they are doing isn't right.

On the other hand, the other non bible thumping religious people that don't try to forcec their beliefs on me.. I don't have a problem with.
