They allow people to keep more of their money, don't they? What the fuck is wrong with that?
I see nothing wrong with loopholes and deductions because fairness is subjective. The Republicans say taxing the rich isn't fair, the Democrats say taxing the poor isn't fair. I say that getting away with more theft is unfair.
The Republicans (in addition to the Dems) have come out against loopholes and deductions in the name of "fairness" and it's pissing me off.
Take Romney for example. Not only does he want more tariffs on China made imports, but he plans to raise taxes by reducing the top marginal income tax rate from 35% to 25% while taking away deductions and loopholes. Some say that's good towards balancing the budget, but then that downplays the spending problem we have, when we don't even had a revenue problem. Kings used to tax their citizens 7% of GDP, the U.S. gov taxes about 2x that.
Higher marginal rates and more deductions aren't as bad because then the wealthiest people just won't pay it, thus taking that money out of circulation, and deductions and loopholes go a lot further to reducing government revenue than higher marginal rates.
I can see where a tariff of 50% on a particular car is worse than a tariff of 10% on the same car, because that takes away the right of the people to buy imports, but with the income tax, we need more deductions.
So Romney wants to fiddle with the tax code so it will be more fair to him and so the government will get more money.
Mitt Bob Dole Romney is more anti-Austrian than Obama since the former is talking about capping spending as a percentage of GDP. GDP is black magic fuckery and is nothing more than a utility created by the state.
