Dumbest rant ever. I mean really, I've seen some stupid rants in this forum, including the zomg pc gaming is dying!!!1 crap. It gets old, it really does. And it is entirely baseless nonsense.

FPS is the first genre in my heart. I've been playing it since it was born, and I've played more games in this genre than I could count. It improves regularly, CoD being one of the best series of FPS games ever made. It is only getting better with Black Ops, giving us a new era to play in as well as fixing a lot of balance issues present in MW2.

If it wasn't for FPS games, I wouldn't have gotten into or stuck to PC gaming. Few other genres are as solid as this one.

Essentially, multiplayer FPS's are now targeted to a mass audience that doesn't have the time to master anything remotely close the twitch shooters of old. Really, CoD:MW controls are so terrible I cry when I try to play. So much delay between input and actions.

It sucks.

Because companies are not making video games any more, they are TRYING to make cash cows. It's CoDs fault.

Example, Medal of Honor.

First 2 halo games, along with the first 2 CoD were very good games, the last 3 games in the series turned them both in exemplar cash cows.

The first CoD + expansion is one of my favorite games of all time but they weren't as popular as Halo games.

Any delay is on account of you, not the game. There is nothing, not one thing, that you master in other games that isn't relevant in any other FPS. That is a stupid meaningless argument. Twitch is twitch is twitch.

Halo was not the first. Nor is it as big as CoD.

I said it was the first biggest fps on consoles which it was. First biggest means it was the first fps on console's to reach mass media. First fps to be in the regular consumer's mind. CoD didn't get huge until MW1.

at least halo doesn't have 5 hour sp campaigns. 3 was a bit slow, but reach is great so far.

You can still find people playing Unreal Tournament. I just got done playing for about a good 45m-1hr of TDM on Beer Drinkers

Fixed. It really became an issue when Microsoft bought Bungie and forced them to cut Halo back to run on the Xbox. After that, it really became all about flash and graphics, while game play remained the same or was degraded to run on consoles. Halo, Halo 2, Halo: Monies! Edition, all the CoD games, etc, they're designed to cater to the lowest common denominator. This effect has spilled into other genres, to their detriment.

I do not believe that PC gaming is dying, but its titles are becoming increasingly console like. Dumbed down, poor controls, weak or non-existent story, superficial characters, the works. PC titles will still be released, but they'll be increasingly crappy. Which, publishers will use to produce fewer PC titles since they sell poorly, they'll only allow existing console games to be ported to the PC in the cheapest manner possible. And then scrap future PC titles because they sell poorly. This cycle will continue until developers get smart and realize that the big name publishers are unnecessary today and begin making the games that people actually want to buy.

I blame it on consolization. Also, notice that arena-style FPS--Quake and Unreal Tournament--are pretty dead now. Blame Epic Games for screwing the pooch and consolizing UT3.

Consolization doesn't exist, it is yet another baseless argument. UT3 was exactly the same formula that existed since the original. The best thing about UT3 was the fact it was the only FPS on consoles to allow the use of keyboard/mouse. If anything, it PCized the console FPS genre :p

consoles are holding PC games back. it's where the money is at though.

It's impossible for consoles to hold back PC gaming. You imply intention and force where neither exist. PC gamers are holding back PC gaming, however. More than one studio has gone under due to pirating. Even games that are sold at a price determined by the buyer are still pirated. Consoles have a bigger and more stable customer base.

What an idiotic post. Let's totally ignore the completely consolized UI, lack of server options, and terrible server browser thrown in. Not until patch 2.0, by which point it was too late, did the game not resemble a console port.

It's impossible for consoles to hold back PC gaming.
Yes, because tailoring your games to run on an Radeon X1800 Graphics card(Xbox) and a 7800GT(PS3), both from 2005, doesn't hold back PC gaming at all. Let's pretend that graphics and processor tech hasn't advanced since 2005 on PCs.

Troll some more.

Dude, learn what the hell you're talking about. Consolization means the increased profitability of console gaming has caused more studios to develop primarily for consoles and then port to PC to save money, which holds the quality of PC games back.

Remind me again which studios have gone under to piracy, rofl.

I honestly can't tell if you're trolling or not.
