Why are we subsidizing old people with Medicare?

and if the elderly is living below the US defined poverty level, then let that person have Medicaid.

You want a word? I'll give ya a word. Asshole! Now, that's a word. Have you ever thought of being cast in the hugely popular hit,The Sopranos? You'd make a great character, because you should be "Whacked". :|

What do you have against old people??
Most older people when they retire whatever benefits they might have had while they were working are greatly curtailed and for those of us still working soon to retire in the next 15 or so years we will literally have no insurance whatsoever...

By the way you have any clue how much money insurance costs?

Oh to retire rich enough to not have to worry about food or insurance...tough choice to make...

so when you get old and god forbid you have to go on kidney dialis im sure you can afford the 70,000+ a year that will cost you. or if you develop a health condition where the drugs that keep you living a viable life cost 360 a month for one months supply. Medicare does a lot of good for our country, i dont even want to think about not having it. If the US would stop blowing our money in stupid crap by the trillioins and applied it to medicare there would not be a issue at all.

Re-Read the OP. Not sure if the spirit of intent is what we are attacking, or that he might have misconstrued what he really meant.

At one time in history, our society decided that it was in our best interests for the elderly to have access to good health care.

Now after the Reagan revolution, republicans congresses, and two GWB adminstrations, I am sure that Medicare would not have become law today.

Basically, what the OP offers is that seniors should first be impoverished to feed the profit margins of insurance and pharma co's, then they can be on medicaid....

After abolishing SS, which, iirc, is also part of the OP's headset, then they'll be on welfare, too...

It's called retirement planning...

Do I have enough money to retire given rising medical costs? Yes/no/unsure?
If no, then work one more year and check again.
If yes, confirm it with your finacial planner/broker then retire.
If unsure, speak with your finacial planner/broker. If you do not have enough saved to speak with a finacial planner, see "If no,..."

They paid for your education (and probably your parents too) with their tax dollar. This enabled you to make a good living and hopefully pay for medical insurance. They also paid into SS all their lives. If you would have been born mentally handicapped that same SS that they paid into would have paid for your medical needs.

According to some of his threads in OT he seems to have the American Dream yet he feels unfullfilled. He's really a self centered sad individual.

You should NOT BE ALLOWED TO POST DUE TO EXTREME IGNORANCE.
Your tax dollars do NOT go to pay for old peoples Medicare. The 'old people' paid into the Medicare portion of the Social Security system their whole lives. Now they are getting back what they paid.
Are you just plain STUPID???? Medicare has been in the news and debated heavily both in and out of this forum. How can you NOT KNOW THAT YOUR TAX DOLLARS DO NOT GO TO PAY OLD PEOPLES MEDICARE!
Wow. I so sickened by your stupidity I am almost physically ill.
And you show your complete ignorance in not knowing that old people under the poverty line ALREADY get Medicaid in addition to Medicare.

Why are we subsidizing young people with free k-12 education?
Let them buy their own education w/o my tax $!
it is easy having the 'bootstrap mentallity" sitting in your parents middle-class home on your own computer thinking it's a great hardship and burden subsidizing the elderly.
thank god my ansestors didn't feel like the OP, we'd be living in a Hobbesian paradise.
now we must get back to the important things in life.... spending trillions on military follies. see you in the gruel line!

and while we're at it,let's eliminate ALL funding for well baby clinics, stop tax funded research into childhood illnesses and diseases, let's also stop tax funded pre-natal care and our annoying habit of expecting the taxpayers to pick up million dollar plus medical bills for premature babies born to poor parents. No more WIC or headstart either. If your parents can't pay,you go without. Why stop with cutting off the old people?

I've worked since I was 13 and paid heavily into the system as it stands I'm probably going to work till I'm 70 thanks to changes in SS concerning retirement. My dollars have funded care for many and I would not be happy with any plan that denies me somehelp with medical care when my turn comes.

They paid in A LOT less than what they are getting back...

with that kind of logic, why not just give free healthcare to everyone who can't afford insurance.

The attitude towards the elderly in the country is shameful. We somehow have reversed common sense and now worship and admire reckless youth, rather than wise age. 🙁
