Why are *we* responsible for Liberia?

This is more of a damned if we do, damned if we don't sort of thing. So the Liberians are dumping bodies of their dead on our embassy there, holding signs up saying "If you had intervened, this would not be happening."

Excuse me, but why is everything in the world our fault? We're fsck'ed if we intervene and fsck'ed if we don't.

I vote pull all troops back domestically, finish the star wars projects and that cool 747 with a frickin' laser on its head and hide.

In this case the liberians want you guys to intervine because they feel some bond to the US (I read that Libera was founded by freed american slaves or something along those lines).

The rebel fighters have said, with good reason, that they will fight any peacekeeping force that arrives before Charles Taylor resigns. This is because LURD appears to be winning the war, and if a force comes in for any reason other than remove Taylor, their cause will be lost.

The Liberian people have no right to protest the U.S. at this point. They are asking our soldiers to die for their cause, not to secure peace. When the war is over they can ask the world to help stabalize the region.

I do fear NK is nuts enough to nuke us in retaliation for any perceived aggression, particularly nuclear. I know you're not serious but the world would be a bad place if *any* country became aggressive in a nuclear sense.

Having said that I've had thoughts of Pakistan nuking India, just so we can get our jobs back.

Last time we went into an African Nation to "help the people" (Somalia) they all turned on us and started killing us.

If we have no economic or security-related reason to be involved, screw 'em.

they all have stronger ties than the US w/ Liberia. We could work a bit on those ties.
