After seeing the 480 going at $499, and a 5870 around $420, what?! I thought it was suppose to get cheaper as time goes by, not the other way around.

supply, demand, inflation, the economy, lack of competition...

the notions that things perpetually get cheaper is ludicrous.

Prices will remain high as long as people are willing to pay that much for them, which it seems they are.

I wonder what will happen to the GTX285 prices. Aren't they stilll like $370.00 on Newegg and the 470 cards will have a $349.99 retail price?

It feels like ATI and Nvidia are communicating well on pricing.

Let's face it 4000 series kicked Nvidia's but and brought GREAT performance for CHEAP.

I don't think that will happen again as even ATI lost out some profits there.

Assuming 5850 was $199 today, I'm not sure if I would upgrade at this point (I have a 4870). $200 for what? 10-20% performance improvement. meh

Where can you get a 5770 1GB for $135? (And I don't mean a 512MB card -- it just won't do if you want to "outperform a 5870".)

BTW, the fact that Juniper has never come close to seeing the kind of supply side pressure as Cypress is why 5770 prices have remained relatively stable.

The 5770 1gb powercolor card has been in the hot deal section for a week or 2 is 150$ or 130$ AR. Some people are getting them for 120$.

It isn't $200 if you sell the 4870, that's something that I often factor in.
