Why Are TV Exec's Doing This

I know Thursday Night at 9PM is the most coveted time slot to win. But why would TV exec's be so stupid. They scheduled four of the most popular shows at the same time. CSI, which always wins the ratings every week, Grey's Anatomy which always won its Sunday night time slot, O.C., very popular amongst young people, and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, a new show by Aaron Sorkin who only wrote, I dunno, the show that won an Emmy for Best Drama four straight years (West Wing)

Also, a lot of young girls who love O.C. also love Greys. And Studio 60 could thrive but probably won't against CSI/Greys.

So whyyyyy would they do this? So dumb.

ratings.
each channel wants to have the most people watching so they put their best shows against each other. they don't care about the viewers at all.

Ratings war?

Are they on different channels?

No, one channel has 4 shows on at the same time in the same slot 😛

😱 i kinda meant 'station/network' since i assume the US has like 400 channels for each network 😱

Not for non-cable channels, where all the ratings heavy shows are.

The only one I care for out of that list is CSI. I am going to give Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip a chance. I was a big fan of The West Wing.

Comcast Dual-Tuner HD-DVR

Problem solved. Plus not wanting to watch girly shows like Grey's and The O.C. makes choosing easier.

hehe...split screens--like a security monitor at the mall...all 4 shows simultaneously--soundtracks completely garbled as they play on top of each other...

Funny stuff....

It would make more financial sense to not put your new shows up against established, potential viewer sucking powerhouses IMO. So I'm not sure what they're doing either. The only way it would seem to make sense is if most people watched 90% of their weekly TV during that timeslot. And some how I find that premise unlikely.

just because you know all of this and probably watch them all, you have lost your manhood IMO

yeah i also need two dual tuner cards, but i prolly will record 2 and if i am home watch the 3rd......i don't care much for one of those shows....so if i am not home then it sucks because i record 2 of favorite but miss out on 3rd.....uggghhh

So if that's true...
They scheduled four of the most popular shows at the same time.
...then why would this be surprising? Should they schedule their popular shows at an undesirable time?

turn off tv and go outside

Thank you for the useful suggestion, but it's usually dark outside at 9:00 p.m. Not much to do outside when it's dark out.

But I'm sure you're a better person than all of us because you don't watch TV - or any other form of entertainment for that matter.

Canablism

Only applies if they are all owned by one company. For example, if Coke introduced a new soft drink that tastes exactly like regular Coke and they continued to sell the original, this would be termed canibalization as they are competing against themselves.
