Rant Why are they killing USAID?

Can't wait to see Trump's first full cabinet meeting where the comical weirdness of each cabinet suck-up taking a turn standing from their seats and heap glory and praise on Trump while he jaw juts and nods his head agreeing with the bullshit accolades. I really do wonder what four years of this oligarchic authoritarianism will do to our democracy. Although I have high hopes that the nation's democratic style of gov't will stand the test of time, I don't think clawing back the tax cuts that Trump and his richest men in the world club will give themselves is going to happen should the Democrats reacquire a unified gov't.

People power is what it'll take and with the Republican base so mind fucked as they are, the divisiveness sewn into the very fabric of that party of Trump can't be overcome until their party's leadership goes too far in exploiting their rank and file's gullibility and emotional vulnerabilities of which will take something outrageously stupid on the part of their regime's leadership to trigger.

That 'ol saying about "fooling some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of...." doesn't fare too well within the Party of Trump. They proved that their leadership can fool all of the people in their party all of the time and make it look so easy doing it.
Just be the usual suck up convention. It's sad to see people abuse themselves that way.

These people are quite literally taking food and lifesaving medicine out of millions of peoples’ hands so they can continue to build their dragon hoards of wealth already worth 10x the entire value of the agency. A bullet to the head is too good for any of them but would be an acceptable outcome of all of this.

The peasant class of America literally elected a mad king and a cabinet of lords and dukes to rule over them.
Yea, but someone funded an LGBTQ play in Ireland so the whole thing has to be burnt down to the ground.

So bizarre that Musk declared

When, if there's any criticism of USAID that I've ever heard, it's that as much as being a 'humanitarian' organisation, it gets used as an instrument of US imperialism, by the radical-right neo-cons who put American interests ahead of all other considerations.

That's generally what the 'radical left' say about it. Same criticisms get leveled against all Western official 'aid' programs. I've never really had the energy to look into those allegations in detail but the idea that it's a "Marxist" organisation is just beyond bizarre.
Any time they say some dumb shit like this, apply the Sartre quote: "Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies". They just use far-left/Marxist etc as a buzzword, detached from the actual meaning of words. You cannot and should not expect accuracy or logical or reasonable behavior.

Trump doesnt understand what USAID is about. He just sees the letters AID and goes into brain dead repub mode and nixes it.

Some more in-depth coverage of the illegal USAID shutdowns, including some that just show the absolute grave indifference to human life (to both those receiving aid and those responsible for monitoring or distributing it). Just completely amoral assholes that America voted into office.

feature not a bug. they should be charged with crimes against humanity for intentionally shutting down aid programs. not that that will ever happen

Pro-life party demonstrating their commitment to life.

Alito coming in with the crazy dissent claiming a district court can't make the president follow the law if it's paying out a lot of money. Somehow forgetting that Congress appropriated funds in the first place...

So is the situation that Roberts and the Handmaiden didn't back them up, and that's the only reason Alito's bizarre (and nakedly political) stance is the 'minority' one?

Only 5 votes for Article 1 eh? Well more than likely this court is going to cough up some really reprehensible shit over the next few years like the immunity decision.

If the government falls it will be in no small part these people’s personal fault. If the constitution is no longer operative I can’t think of any use for them besides to face a tribunal.

ACB pulling a Souter because she apparently thought the job was supposed to be at least a little bit about the law and not just whatever Trump wants would be interesting.

Now we wait to see just how long until the admin completely ignores this ruling, because they're not just going to start the payments back up.

Tribunal is a strange word for firing squad.
Point is if it gets to the point where they face justice, there will not be any justice.

Or a DeJoy: despite being a partisan, trying to prove they can do a job right out of spite.
When did dejoy do anything "good" for USPS? As I recall he's been a roadblock to any meaningful improvements (BEVs and next gen mail truck, removal of mail sorting machines, etc.)

I think he ended up not being as much of a roadblock as expected, and did do some things to try and modernize the USPS.

Today's my wife's official last day--she did get an extension last month while her employer was waiting for payments to start flowing--but the delayed release did it's job of forcing >80% of staff to be furloughed. SCOTUS decision at this point is moot--still not even sure whether the Administration will actually follow orders (MAGATs seem to be complaining about John Roberts and asking for his impeachment now.)

Listening in to her farewell calls (we're both working from home today) has been brutal. People dedicated their lives to a cause and were told en masse that cause (making the world healthier and better partners of the US) no longer matters.
