Why are there two Dr. Dres?

I've always been curious why there are two different Dr. Dres. The more well known one from NWA, and the other one, who was on Yo! MTV Raps. How did they both come up with the name Doctor Dre? Just a councidence? Any lawsuits involved?

Just a guess, but Dre is short for Andre and the Dr. part is something that a bunch of rap and techno people add to their name to sound important. Therefore, the rap industry had one too many Andres that wanted to be important.
