C.S. Lewis addresses this question in depth in Mere Christianity. His explaination is far better than anything I could write here.

It's certainly got some great reviews on Amazon. I'll check it out.

This book is amazing. Even athiests would enjoy it. It's subtly religious, but all his points are points that relate to a life WITHOUT religion, which makes it applicable to anyone.

It's the only book I've read cover to cover in the last 5 years, and that's saying a lot.

Yes, there is a universal right and wrong. I'm right, and you're wrong.
This can sum up many of man's differences through the ages.

This especially applies to history, the winner (who usually writes the "history") is right, and the loser is wrong.

Idea taken from Braveheart.

Because "right" and "wrong" are completely subjective.

There's probably some tribe in the nether regions of the world that practices sacrificing babies.

Wrong? Not to them.

The OP comes to mind.

I thought kids we're taught at a young age that everyone is different, perhaps everyone should have the same opinion on everything.

There is no objective moral code.

Shens! Every creature in the universe knows right from wrong!! /ipax

Hence the first statement above. However it doesn't follow that "Every creature in the universe" has the same moral code or that there is an objective basis for holding any particular code.

Yeah, well... my dad can beat up your dad.
