Why are there seperate PC and Mac versions of SSDs?

Because they want to milk more money out of Apple users.

Other than that, I don't think there's any firmware limitations on these things preventing interchangeable use of the cheaper PC versions in Macs, unless Apple is THAT uptight about third-party hardware, which I could see them do (like their "Mac" video cards that are two generations behind and still cost premium dollars).

Because everyone knows Mac versions are inherently so much better and should therefore command a much higher price... ;)

There's EFI data in some cases. If they don't put it on the firmware it won't work in a mac. Many makers have it in anyway. Use google to find which ones work.
