Why are there Nvidia or ATI fanboys?

I've noticed this alarming separation between ATI & Nvidia fanboys but I don't understand it..

This is not something like Xbox vs PS2 platform

Both GPU makers make video cards that plays the same games on Windows at same or nearly same speed. Graphic quality is not even an issue anymore, there are microscopic differences but it is unnoticeable.

ATI fanboys keeps saying SLI is a waste of money and Nvidia fanboys says ATI does not have SM3.0 support, blah blah...

My take, they both have competing products that plays all the popular games equally well, the only time I would compare them is to match what I have and what the most bang of the buck would be.

As far as the next-gen is concerned. G70 vs R520, for now it is really meaningless to compare these next-gen GPUs playing current-gen games, since the numbers are so high that most of us aren't gonna benefit much. The real deal is how they perform in upcoming or next-gen games. I would buy the card that has the best next-gen game support.

This ATI or Nvidia fanboyism is childish and ignorant. May the best bang in the bucks card that works for you wins.

There is fanyboyism because when somebody buys a product under a brand, they want to justify spending the money for it and defend it when it comes under attack. Lets say I dumped $300 for a 6800gt, im probabily going to side with Nvidia as I spent alot of money going with them. Therefore I want to justify spending all that money on it by saying its great and way better then a similer ATI card. (this was a example anyways)

This is my thoughts on why there is fanboyism =)

The internet made them do it.
Most in here aren't fanboys but like to discuss pro and con both sides, but there will always gather a few of those. Most of the time you will notice those acting stupid have very limited number of posts. ;)

I've wondered this aswell... when the cards preform the same, why fight over which one is better.

I can understand AMD/Intel, because Intel and AMD both have processes that one can do considerably better at then the other. And one has nearly always been way cheaper then the other, but this seems to be dying aswell...

Why are there Republican fanboys(girls) and Democrat fanboys(girls) [In America]. Why are there Christian fanboys(girls) and Muslim fanboys(girls). Each group feels they are right and the others are wrong and must change. Sigh

Hail to the King!!!!

Seriously who cares what brand name is attached to a video card? There should be one question to ask - does it perform? That is all I care about. Anyone who is suckered into brand name allegiance deserves to get egg on their face from time to time.

ATI vs Nvidia?

Nope.

What card is the best price to performance ratio for the level/price you are willing to pay. Again, for the level/price you are willing to pay. That is all that should matter to anyone. Have unlimited funds to sink into your computer components? Then what is the best performance money can buy should be your question, not which [fill in manufacturer] product is the best money can buy. On a budget and only have say $150 to spend on the video card component? Then what is the best performance you can buy for $150 should be your question.

Fanboys would make me laugh if they weren't so dern annoying at times.

Its like this:

Light vs Dark

Good vs Evil

Yin vs Yang

Right vs Wrollo ;)

I find I may sometimes seem like a fanboy because of fanboys. Just somehow gets under my skin when people argue against a video card for what appears no other reason than just for arguings sake. I guess they would be called fanboys, but when I see someone acting like a product is utterly superior to something that is in all actuallity equal in almost all respects I find I have to either a: find out why the individual believes that or b: prove the individual is incorrect. Some people honestly argue like there are such extreme differences that it just baffles me. I guess I myself get into the discussions to understand them, to try to figure out what makes someone tick who truly believes like that.

Oh and the other reason I contribute is to maintain the balance, :p

nVidia is evil because they bought out 3dfx right after I got my first videocard from them (Voodoo 3 3000! w00t!). Then they suck because my next videocard was an $80 Radeon 7500 that played all the games I own when nVidia didn't have any decent cards <$100 that I knew of. ATI has better image quality and AA, so nVidia sucks again!

That's how fanboys get born. I'm using a 6600GT now, though. ;)

LoL! How do I justify my ATI All In Wonder from which I get 50 FPS in CS? The fact that I can watch the NBA Playoffs while I play poker is enough =)

How do I justify my Voodoo 3 2000 PCI? It's faster than a TNT2 M64 PCI damnit. I didn't have an AGP slot. I was never a fan of 3dfx but oh well... had to go there.

After the Mitsumi vs TEAC floppy disk Fanboy War of 1996, both sides conceded the Floppy Disks sucked and moved onto greener pastures. Some went Cpu others went Video Card/Chip. ;)

I personally care less about who makes the card. I just buy whatever suits my needs at my spending limit (which is about $300 tops) at the time. Both sides have their pros and cons. For me, I happen to like the lil extra performance of the 6800GT I used to have in certian games but like the control panel and image quality of my X800XL.

Sometimes I think fanboyism can be alright, like if someone works for ATi, it's a GOOD thing they promote their product over nVidia. Product loyalty also plays a role, if you're satisfied with your current product and don't think you'd want a change, even if it's slightly better, it's okay (like if you prefer nVidia drivers over ATi, even if ATi performs slightly better in games you play). Fanboyism gets annoying when you just purposefully go out and bash other products. I had a roommate who used to watch the Presidential debates, just so he could yell at Bush, then when it was Kerry's turn to speak, he'd go do something else, this annoyed the HELL out of me, I'm not even a Bush fan!

NVIDIA fanboy only because NVIDIA changes its chick with every card release. While ATI is like the married man's playboy. Same woman every month.

Other than that its best bang for the buck. Right not NVIDIA is winning with the 6600GT.
