Why are there no threads about our new Aircraft Carrier?

The USS Ronald Reagan was christened yesterday. Really expected someone to comment on it by now.

Too bad President Reagan probably doesnt even understand how honored he was.

Lets see if we can keep hate comments to a minimum on this one.

My question is, what made Ronny such a great guy all of a sudden. I was pretty young when he was prez., but I sure don't remember it being all peachy...

I saw a documentary about the process of building an aircraft carrier, and I've seen the shipyards in Newport News, VA. The fact that ships of that magnitude things even exist absolutely astound me. :Q

I was wondering the same thing and I have an idea...it's b/c he just had his 90th (or was it 80th) birthday. Everyone went ga ga over that.

Remember the poll from last month asking about "best president." Kennedy had been #1 for a while. But wait; Reagan's birthday was a few days before the poll and it was in everyone's mind at the time so let's vote for 'ol Reagan. So Reagan shoots to the top...

Not to take anything away from him though...just an observation

I wonder just how long it would take us to build either the USS Enterprise or even the Voyager from Star Trek.

These carriers are so huge it boggles the mind.

I guess when Bill Clinton turns 90 he'll get an Aircraft Carrier built in his name too eh.

It'll take that long before people start taking a new perspective on his presidency.

Well, on second thought, once all of the baby boomers bite the dust history might be rewritten :)

I saw where it stated that 45,000 tons of steel were used to build it.

The biggest carrier we have today displaces 102,000 tons (more than twice the size of any other nations carrier, hence the reason for its *super* designation).

Anyone know what its final weight will be? Where does the extra 55,000+ tons come from?

They also stated that it cost 4 billion to build, that's a bargain since last I heard it was around 6 billion. Or is that the fully equipped version with all the options.

Any navy guys out there know?

NFS4,

Reagan will go down in history as a great president. He ended the cold war. That was a major accomplishment. He also slashed taxes, which ended double digit unemployment and double digit inflation. These taxes cuts are the reason we have had a great economy for the past 20 years. To see this anyother way would be a revision of history.

Nope, the only vessel that the Navy could name for him would have to be a Submarine. One that "goes down" and is Cigar shaped is perfect. :D

Yeah, they'll name the ship the USS Stain. It'll be a little dingy, with a crew of mostly over-weight women. ;) Though, they will give you free cigars when you board.
