I assume you mean got sprayed in the face with gasoline, although that doesn't really change my question. How exactly did you manage to do this?

It's an embarrassing story actually. I was at the gas station with my mom. She had a 1980 olds cutlass that had the gas cap behind the flip down license plate. I was explaining to her how you can use the little lever to keep the gas flowing without having to hold it. After I set it up, I was about to turn to her and say something like "see, no hands", but just then the gas hit the nozzle causing it to jump. Apparently the filler tube is quite narrow and the gas filled it quickly. This coupled with the unfortunate angle of the tube, resulted in a face full of gas for me. I remember blindly asking some guy in the next bay if he had a towel (the station was pretty busy). He told me to go to inside to the bathroom to wash up. By the time i got there the stinging had died down. But I still smelled like gas for awhile.

All of the shitty gas stations down here have them, none of the good gas stations have them. I like them.

I saw an ad in a magazine a while ago for doohickey on a key chain would hold it on for you. I like to clean my windows while I'm filling up and the one of my cars has such a short tether on the cap you cant's shove it in there if the detents are missing on the nozzle handle, I was thinking about looking to see if they still make them.

Because retards will do something stupid like get back in their car while it's pumping, and then you build up a bit of static electricity and BOOM your car is on fire. Women cause something like 80% of gas station fires, because they get back in their car while it's pumping then leave the door open when they get back out. Touching the door discharges the static electricity. Not touching the door means you discharge it next to your gas tank.

It's hit or miss whether they have them in PA, but I assume that's why they've been removed at the stations that don't have them. Every gas station in NJ has the clips, because we can't pump our own gas. :)

Or they just drive off with the hose still in the car's filler hole. My former boss came in one day talking about how she'd pulled away from the gas station that morning with the hose still in the tank. Then she mentioned that this made the THIRD time she'd done that.

That pretty much explains all you need to know about why I listed "management" as my reason for leaving when I went into consulting.

LOL.

How do those things work out? Does the gas station track you down and make you pay the damages or do they just call the cops and give them the name/addy from the credit card?

The hoses are attached with quick disconnect fittings that can be reattached. Since that happens often enough to need them.

I'm assuming you read Omaha and NOT Oahu.

In case it somehow flies out of the filler hole and gas sprays everywhere?

We used to have the clips here in NY then they mysteriously took them all out.

In Canada I've never seen a gas station that has them. Very annoying when it's freezing cold in the winter.

Did you know that if the pump/nozzle is upside down and you're using the auto lever that I won't cut off and just gush gas like a geyser?

Guess how I know this...

illigal in Canada. Also illigal to put your gas cap there to jam it. So in winter I go to full service :) the extra .6 cent a litre is well worth it.

Hey, what're you doing in Olean? That's my hometown; never had an ATOTer so close to me before.

Also, there are a few gas stations that still have the little thing there; they're few and far between though. I'm another one of the use the gas cap people; except I'm aware of the static discharge risk and intentionally avoid making that mistake.

I LOL'd at that myself. I've been to Oahu several times, and I sure don't remember it being in the Cornhusker state...:D In fact, I don't remember seeing the ocean anywhere in Nebraska...

Depends on how the transaction was done, I'd suppose.

When I was a kid driving with my mom we got rearended and pulled into a gas station, while waiting for the police someone drove away with the pump still in the car. Whoops.

circle k here has a recovery dept. the parking lot cam footage, transaction list and any other pertinent info is given to them and they pursue it with either the customer directly or the police. kind of like a guido squad. well, they used to at least, i used to know people there before they got bought and sold a few times so they may have changed how they operate. i always wanted to work in that area hehe.

i found that out when filling up my 76 impala back in the day... it was behind the license plate and pretty much impossible to have it right side up due to the bumper. it swiveled from sideways to almost upside down and left a puddle about 7 feet across behind my car before i noticed it. i was at the front of the car wiping windows.

Heh, oops. I made fun of your hometown.

edit: Oh heh actually I guess I didn't end up knocking Olean... I must've deleted that part before posting. :D

Anyway I came in NY state on the Southern Tier Expressway heading east, I was getting low on gas, and the area seemed to be getting pretty rural so I stopped at the next place I seen. But my destination was near Binghamton so I'm a few hours away from Olean now.

I didn't realize the missing level hold things was quite common, as they have never NOT been there in Michigan. Then again, where I've lived in Michigan, there was never stations that required you to pay beforehand either.

That's illegal here.

Yeah, the Royal Canadian Gas Police will get ya!!!
