Why are there no gays on Star Trek?

They had the 'non-gendered race' on TNG, where identifying with a gender was a 'defect', and being 'heterosexual' meant being sent for radical treatment at 'gay camp'.

It was never really clear if there actually were physical genders, but they were ignored, or not. Will Riker could tell you though.

Being gay is an genetic defect along the same lines as the propensity for obesity. In the days of Star Trek, science has evolved so far that defects such as these have been bred out of our genes.

Well there was that smooch between Dax and some chick on a Deep Space Nine episode but they get around the gay thing by saying the chick liked a previous Dax. ...some shit like that anyways.
