Why are the processors on the bottom of Cards?

Just wondering why manufacturers put the processor's on the bottom of the card so that it takes up a pci slot or two, or is impossible to put a bigger heatsink on if pci cards are in the way. Maybe my dell case is weird, but there is way more room for a larger heatsink if the processor was on the top! It would make sence as well because since heat rises, theoreticly cooling would be better too. Any thoughts?

Because the idea of a monstrous GPU cooler blowing scalding air onto the CPU and it's cooling system is unappealing?

Plus there is the issue of dust settling on the HS/F.
And when there were desktop cases, there was no up or down.

I think so. The enclosers inside the case will actually seperate CPU airflow from everything else IIRC. Also, I think there may be some option to do the same with GPUs.

9600XT, I don't game with the newest stuff so i don't need a good one. I just really like the modding side of computers and o/c ing. But, when i got my dell 2 years ago i didn't know what overclocking ment! Any way, i just view computers as kind of a hobby. A fun thing to do.

Probibly, but i don't really want to shell out the cash for it. If i wanted to spend like 50 bucks on my vid card i would probibly just upgrade it.

Well, i found one for cheaper than 50 bucks but know nothing about them. Will this bring down my temperatures for my processor/ram? I have ram sinks on the ram, but have stock cooling on my processor.

Because that's how the slot spec was designed. The same reason PCI is upside-down as well.

One Word: Intel.

Some Words: PCI specification says it should be this way. GFX card manufacturers cannot go against PCI specifications because it is bad and may not be compatible with all motherboards. Following PCi specification ensures compatability.
