Was it ever proven that he was driving?

Also, weren't the others in the boat also partaking?

1) Yes, it was proven he was driving.

2) The other two were drinking. But neither was coked up and neither was legally drunk. What else you got dumbass?

HE KILLED HIS FRIENDS. If he had lived he'd be spending 20 years in jail. The end.

I am saying that if those 3 or 4 hours didn't happen they wouldn't be honoring him. Do you deny that?

Oh ForFucksSake...they are wearing a Black # 16 patch on their jerseys because he is dead. If those 3 or 4 hours didn't happen and he was still alive, yes...they would be honoring him in one form or another throughout his life because of his charity work in the community or other such good work he did with children when he was ALIVE. He was the face of the franchise, and will be sorely missed, I'm sure his teammate's will be honored to wear the patch. He and his friends made the worst decision they could ever make and those 3 or 4 hours will not be "honored", they will serve a life lesson to children everywhere, (and in particular, the kids down here who idolized him) of what NOT to do when you have fame and riches.

But he did. So now people are celebrating the life he had and how he impacted others before he made a terrible decision.

If he'd worked at a homeless shelter sober that night at 3am rather than out on his boat they wouldn't be wearing his number today. They're not celebrating his life.

From the OP:

Investigators have determined Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was piloting the boat as it hit a jetty off the coast of Miami Beach last September, a crash that resulted in the deaths of Fernandez and two friends.

If they want to honor him, no skin off my teeth. He seems like he was a good dude who made the ultimate poor decision just like everyone who got in the boat with him. The town is choosing to forgive him evidently. It's their prerogative.

So now I'm dumbass for legitimately asking a question?
