Why are so many people jerks on the internet?

The internet is a double-edged sword. It's been that way from nearly the beginning.

Separate the physical presence, and people are less of afraid of being mean or moronic.
It does allow for more critical analysis by a greater number of people, but it also means that you have more online trolling than you have in-person cruelness.
