It was designed with the users' best interests in mind... not just because the IT guys were "lazy" and "uneducated".

Do you even bother to read my very first post on this thread?

Take too long to read and understand it, right? Oh noooooo..better reformat the hard drive so you can read/comprehensive faster...LOL. :disgust:

How about you try not to be suck a dick when you talk about this? Or are you that stereotypical IT person everyone's referring to?

Oh no, calling name..I am soooo scare. Just a typical response from a loser. Now run along and format some hard drives ..Your time is up...LOL...

Wow... so the answer to my question is 'yes', then?

And sorry... I haven't had to screw around with a PC support issue for in years You see, I graduated from Cable Jockey/Computer Bitch a long time ago. Hit me on the project management front, and we'll talk.

Does the Geek Squad know you're playing on the Internet again?

Why do so many threads head right down the Crapper on ATOT? The OP posts a message/rant/whatever and the community responds. The OP suddenly gets a case of "I don't like the answer/response I was given so I'm gonna get cocky in my responses, now" and the thread becomes a war zone. <shakes head>

Can't we all just get along????

You should have mastered one language before attempting others. And, you seriously need a huge dose of Grow the Fsck Up. Had you remained civil, you wouldn't even find yourself in this predicament. Given the intelligence you've displayed here, I call shens on just about everything you've said.

Settle down, get the sand out of your vagina, and try to have a civil discussion for a change.

Oh, and I was merely correcting you when I stated what I did. You can't go "you do XYZ" and when you get corrected, go "EPEN0R!!!!!!"

It's just stupid  .

You talk about civil, who was the butthole that call other people name?

Shens? So if I get a pic of my BS and MBA degrees <accredit US university>, then you going do what? Kill yourself for being too stupid to know any better? Or you going make a pic of yourself with a big sign... ** MY NAME IS STUPID AND I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO READ**** LOL

Again, I ask you, did you even BOTHER to read my very post about this thread before you jump in the middle and act all gun ho? You didn't answer and base on your posts, we all know the answer.

I call shens because you talk and act like a child. I called you a dick because you were acting like one. You went off on personal attacks when it was totally unecessary. Then you pretty much owned the namecalling after that.

Your posts wreak of 13 year old speak. Just read your post above. What adult talks like that?

Sorry, it's pretty impossible to take you seriously at this point. You're a bit of a joke, really.

Oh, nice....try to backpaddle ...who is the stupid now...lol..

Do you even know what backpeddling means??? You told me to get back to reformatting drives in one of your prepubescant rants. I corrected you by telling you I haven't been in that position in YEARS. Then you call me out for whipping out my e-penis. That makes absolutely no sense.

Get your sh*t together, son.

Meh Svnla. In a large Enterprise, IT is run to a budget and time costs money. Your intellectual desire to find the root cause of a sappy little desktop machine that got humped by it's owner is outweighed by the speed and efficiency of a re-image.

I agree with that. I said in my first post in this thread and other posts after, re-image is a wonderful tool.

I never said don't use it. I was just saying that guy that I knew at a Fortune 500 company always refer to re-image as a first thing to do. He didn't even bother to check anything else. That's what I was saying all along.

Edit: jbourne77, we are done here. LOL, talk is cheap.. BTW, you mispelled at one of your last posts..<grammar nazi> LOL.

Well, to cap this thread off: I've said this before in another post: Almost every company whines about how crappy their IT department is. But when you ask them how much they're paying their IT guys it's usually pretty bad. My friend put it best 'Companies don't want to pay IT good money because it doesn't directly bring in money'. The few companies that 'get it' are the ones that pay good money for IT, and get good results. I'd bet half of the top 25% of people in ANY IT field are unemployed, because the BOTTOM 25% are ALL employed, because they'll take the ****** wage. So few business understand that if you higher cut-rate IT, yeah you'll save money on THEIR salaries, but everytime they screw up you lose the productivity of the people who depend on them, the productivity of the person who screwed up in the first place and has to back-track and fix, you lose money on paying consultants to come in and un-quagmire whatever the cut-rate person screwed up, and most importantly, you lose customer satisfaction everytime you say 'well call back later our network is fuxored' or something similar.

Because there are thousands of competent unemployed IT people out there that would do these bafoons jobs 10 times better than they are currently doing them. Incompetent people shouldn't be payed good money when half the time there are much more talented people that would do a better job for (alot of the time) less money. THAT is the only confusing part about this.

They don't interview well, they don't present themselves in a good way, they aren't good at dealing with people, etc. Or they plain just don't have the connections/resources to find the quality jobs. So many reasons abound. Technical knowledge, while the most important thing, is not the only factor.

In all fairness, a reformat is the most economical solution, time-wise and money-wise for an IT department to do at many companies. If you're saving your data to the network like a good little user, a reformat should be of no consequence to you.

Troubleshooting PC problems in a corporate environment is oftentimes not a wise time investment on anyone's part, especially since a number of troubleshooting sessions end in a reformat anyway.

To an extent sure, it's easier for *you*. Do you save all the "little" things like application settings, favorites, desktop items, backrounds, etc.? What about user-specific 3rd party apps/IE plugins? Replicated data (can take hours to replace someone's synched e-mails)? Some of these little things are quite important to the user, others may reinstalls take a lot longer than you might think.

What if the user is an exec.? You want to impact as little as possible. It may not matter if you fixed the machine and it only took 2 hours of your time, if the machine was down for a day due to fixing some of the other BS listed above. The replicated data thing bit us in the ass once, 5 effing GBs of mail.

There is a time and place for re-formatting. Sometimes reimaging is faster and better for all involved as opposed to TSing the problem... Something to think about, obviously these factors vary by environment.

Every single thing that you listed is already taken care of with SRP's and the like. Users are not given access to install random crap to their computer, there is a list of things that they need to do their job, those things are included on the image, and their files are backed up to the server. When you plan ahead for things like this downtime is minimal.

CHA CHING. and if your users have install rights... well.. that's your company's decision to invest that much more time into it.

These things depend on company politics and are simply not available everywhere. Perhaps at very large orginizations, or any place where IT rules with an iron fist will.
