I was at BB just now. The camera retails there for $300. $200 will buy a Fuji wth the 3x/3.2 megapixel (same as the canon). Or, $300 will get a 3.1 megapixel/6X optical (!!) Fuji. What am I missing here?

*UPDATE* top_left.JPG <- this is a picture taken with my second Fujipix S5000. Check the top left at 1:1 and you'll see that there is a little white dot. Apparently this camera is nearly as dirty as the first one, when you get behind the lens. Would you take it back over this? I really do like the features of the camera, but I shall not be trying a third one if I take it back. Mrsskoorb says it's nothing to worry about, but this sort of thing pisses me off a bit :)

I know!! I dont' get it either... it's such a huge camera and takes a bunch of batteries. I'd rather use a cannon SD100 anyday for about the same price.

Because not all 3.2 MP cameras = other 3.2 MP cameras

The thing is loaded with features half of which I don't know what they do yet.
I also purchase mine for $230.

the fuji is too automatic. The 6x fuji is huge too, isn't it? I thought it was..

I have an a70. I like the excellent macro mode for taking pictures of watches and such. My biggest complaint is the shoddy lcd.

The Canon has more features such as more manual controls, focus assist lamp, etc. plus it uses CF which is cheaper and more widely used than Fuji's xD. Overall, Canon makes a better camera than the equivalent Fuji

However, I agree that Fuji in many cases offers a better value. I think Fuji lenses are very good and you can get great pictures even without the better controls of the Canons. I like bang-for-your-buck, so I guess that's why I ended up with a Fuji!

I am partly to blame ever since "discovering" the Canon A40.

Since then it's spread like wildfire.

Before you buy a digicam you should research which digicam best fits your needs and budget. The Canon A70 is an awesome digicam but it is NOT the best for everyone.

Fuji, Nikon, Olympus, Minolta, Pentax, and *cough* Sony *cough* also make excellent digicams.

Personally I would avoid HP and Kodak digicams.

Quality pictures.

Besides you're a sucker to buy a camera from Best Buy. Wait it out at OfficeMax when they bundle free memory with purchase, then you toss in a coupon, which makes the price very nice.

I like mine and it was easy to start using even with all the features. My wife uses it more than our DV camera because it's so easy to use.

The MP's is just how many pixels theres going to be in the picture. The CCD is the one that creates the pixels. If you have a crap CCD your pictures are going to be crap.

My Olympus C2100UZ takes fantastic pictures and it's only 2.1MP but it has a really good CCD.

RossMan is to blame almost 100%. I never understood the obsession either - with both the camera and Ross's Word of God. Hahah. Just kidding.

Skoorb, for you information, you will not get away with this. It has to stop right there. Enjoy until your time is up.
