why are sennheiser hd555's so expensive now days

I used to see the Sennheiser HD555s on sale for 80-100 dollars all the time.
Now I see 130-160....tending towards 160 more often.
What the heck is going on?

Only reason I really care is because my old pair broke that I have had for years and I want a new one, but its difficult to justify paying more than I did 4 years ago for the same set.
 
Supply and demand I am guessing. They were replaced by the 558's which are pricier and most people want the cheaper 555s probably.

Plus you can do the 595 mod, and make them sound even better! I bought mine for the higher price, and dont regret it at all.
 
Also, they are made in Germany, and the Euro is having some problems these days.
 
USD not too hot either. It is not just the 555 model either. They hiked up the 800 price not too long ago too.
