Why are Ripjaws so popular?

Yea when i built my first DDR3 system for a friend their 1600 c8 kits were on sale on newegg for $25 off sticker price, and after using 12gb of their DDR2 1066 the year before without issue in 2 systems I was looking to them again. When I built my file server last month, yet again i looked their way, and saw that the C7-8-7-24 kits had come down to the same price now, so it was obvious what to get. as an added bonus the color of their heat spreaders has always matched the color scheme for whichever build I'm doing so it was a nice bonus. All my DDR2 was going in ep45-ud3p boards which use blue heatsinks, the friends build was red themed, and the MSI board i used for my server (890FX) was blue/ black themed. The DDR 400 1gb stick I have from them is also my oldest functioning DDR i have, and the only one from my 2004 DDR buy that still works

It does for me. I'd never buy a product named "Ripjaws". Nor "Ballistix". Probably not "Dominator" nor "Fataility", either. Names like that are a big turnoff to me.

well that's really dumb

I bought my Ripjaws because they were no more expensive than other branded sticks of similar MHz/timings but significant combo discounts made it retarded to pass up, regardless of the stupid l33t-epeen branding.

you will actually pay MORE money to have something without a stupid name?
Frankly, I find the name ripjaw and fatality and dominator etc to be vomit inducing... but I despise those foolish enough to pay more for such a name, and I will not lower myself to their level by paying more to avoid such a name.

i'd spend a few bucks more on no-name (all comp) ecc ram and enjoy no faults which you will not ever know if /if not you get a bit flip error.

I'm surprised no one has bought them because of their amazing advertising here on anandtech. . .

Pretty sure I've bought at least 1 kit of ripjaws. . . they were the cheapest for the speed/latency. I have some gskill ram in my current machine too, but not ripjaws.

Edit, a rather funny manufacturer response from newegg:
Thank you for your G.Skill purchase. We are sorry to hear one of the modules is not working right. The replacement module should have no problems. The RipJaws series is our gaming series, so the performance is outstanding. Especially with 4GB modules, lag should no longer exist. If you have any questions or issues in the future, please feel free to contact us directly.
Gotta drive up those FPS !
