So, some guy calls me from Cox Cable last evening. He's trying to push their digital cable plan where they are offering it an Showtime for some great price for the next 6 months. I told the guy that I wasn't interested. He asked why. I told him that I didn't have the right equipment to take advantage of their digital cable services. He still questioned why I didn't want their cable plan that they were offering.
Morons.

I'm a little confused...if he was offering their digital cable service, then you don't need a special TV to take advantage of that...it's just like normal cable except you have a converter box that gives you an an on-screen guide, on demand programming etc.....

No, I understand what you're saying. I didn't want any of the extras being pushed, plus, they try to point out that the picture quality, etc. is far superior. That is where I had my issue.

Gotcha
And I'll have spent those two years (along with the last two) enjoying watching movies and playing video games on a big screen TV.Originally posted by: BigJelly
I dont plan on buying a HDTV until 2007 and by that time i'll spend probably less than half of what people that paid for HDTVs today and get better quaility (all you guys that jumped the gun got 720 resolution when HDTV will be capable of 1080 resolution)

I'm more interested in buying a HDTV capture card for my computer. I believe sometime this year, all capture cards will need to support the Broadcast Flag. If you are watching a show and the it has the broadcast flag turned on, you can't record it. Any HDTV recorders out now don't need to detect the Broadcast Flag.![]()

Actually MOST sets are 1080i native. It's getting a set that does 720p native is the hard thing. Lots more expensive to run high-resolution progressive at this point.
(Owner of Samsung 30" HD set. Since it had a built-in tuner, I pulled in my local stations in all their glory with a cheap Silver Sensor antenna.) And yes, NBC in 1080i rules.
