Why are people more attracted to their own race?

It seems to me that most white men find white women more attractive, as with asians and so on.

What makes incest so bad is it limits the chromosomes, or something along those lines. Isn't procreation within the same race more "incest" than interracial?

Shouldn't people naturally be more attracted to other races to increase the gene pool for their offspring?

Or am I way off?

This is not a genetics issue, it is a culture issue.

Well, as a Latina, I have a bit of white, black, and asian in me. And I do find select members of all races attractive!

<---it's good to be me ;)

This is not a genetics issue, it is a culture issue.

I am less physically attracted to dark skinned girls than light skinned girls, in general. That is not a culture issue.

True, but some of it biological, as is true with every psychological issue. When I was hit with puberty, I felt attraction toward white females (I'm a white male) immediately. Attraction to to other races (with a few exceptions) took slightly longer to develop. I was raised in a very multi-ethic area (although my entire family is white), so culturally, I should be roughly equal on the attraction scale. However, I am still attracted to white females far more than any other race by instinct.

You're more likely to be raised around people of your own race, hence be used to them and be moie attracted to them.

Whites that grow up in mostly white areas tend to be attracted to whies, blacks to blacks, etc..

Plus, being the same race allows you to have a stronger connection to one another generally, which creates attraction.

Maybe there is a genetic factor involved, as much as there is a natural inclination to be attracted to the opposite sex, but there is undoutedly a strong cultural issue too.

However I believe that if you raise an asian person in a predominantly white area, he will end up being more attracted to white people than an asian who grew up with mostly asians.

The reverse is true for me. Who is to say why people find certain other people attractive? I have different tastes in women that others in my family, which seems kind of weird.

I was attracted to boobs myself.

I've always been attracted to women period. Doesn't matter if white, black, asian, or eskimo.

I married outside of my 'race'.

You go, Chaotic!

My husband is as white as it gets and he is a lot more attracted to 'exotic' types. It's not the norm for his family. BTW, he is one of the most intelligent and successful of the bunch. :D

When considering only your own preferences, it's a personal issue. But when you consider these preferences of many people in aggregate and whether the data shows some clear correlation, it becomes a social/cultural issue.

I'm more in to girls that aren't oriental.

I left Cambodia when I was 2 and most oriental girls are plain to me. I've dated a few good looking ones but I am more attracted to white girls. But maybe this is because I see more better looking ones about? When I was in Tokyo and HK I didn't see as many good looking girls as their are in London.

I'm a fan of women period though :D

I have a few white English mates that have serious yellow fever :p. But the girls they point out to me I find plain or not as stunning as they do. They see them as exotic which is true for them and should be for me as I've not been around many orientals growing up. Only the past 5yrs.

That brings up another good point. If a new, red skinned race was formed, would there be attraction to them? For most it'd just be extremely weird, and people would shy away..whereas blacks, who are as equally different from whites as red skinned people are, have been a part of normal culture and there is attraction to them from other races.

Physical attraction only does so much for me. Personality is very important. So long as the girl is at least somewhat attractive, her personality is the main factor.

Its no different than any other species of animal.

Once you've developed distinct characteristics, it isn't always beneficial to mix them. For instance, when chinese people mix with caucasian people, you can have small jaws with large teeth and causes all sorts of dental problems (I'm not saying this is always the case!). But in other cases, where you have african people mixing with white people, you end up with some beautiful mallato children. :)

I'm pretty sure Captain Kirk would be attracted.

it varries person to person. I grew up in a white neighborhood, and honestly when I started to notice females, all the white ones I saw reminded me of a female in my family in some way. I've never been able to look at a white woman without that family connection. So I did a 180 and have pretty much only found myself being attracted to females who least resemble anyone in my family. I tend to really like wemen of color.

People need to divide emotional / social attraction from sexual attraction.

Emotional / social attraction is stronger for people of the same "race" due to the fact that cultural and social norms are more likely to be the same, and hence easier going on both parties to be more comfortable with one another. (Don't forget the unforgiving inlaws)

Sexually, nature kicks in and puts a lot more emphasis on other factors to the individual than just skin color and cultural norms. (IE, doesn't matter one bit)

For the record I'm attracted to attractive people, regardless of skin color. I think I'm more shallow than a person who would prefer the same "race" actually since my criteria is a lot more complex than that. I hate skinny girls, girls with short hair, girls with an attitiude... yatta yatta. I think it's just too complex of the human mind to be basing preference off one simple factor as "race" when there are so many other variables in it.

I am not attracted to (most) Asian girls and (most) blondes(I know I'm not in the norm). Other than that I love every girl that is hot, any race(I go more for burnettes).
