Why are online tech store emails sent in duplicate?

Staples, Geeks.com, Mwave, etc all come in duplicates. I tried unsubscribing, then going in under a different email and subscribing again, but 2 of each still come.

Anyone else notice this? Is this on purpose? If so, what's the purpose?

To be entirely and absolutely sure that you get their emails?

It's the same for many big box stores. Jos A. Bank, Men's Wearhouse, etc. send me duplicates.
