Why are Oil Filter Relocation kits so expensive ?

If you have a 2JZ it's a pain in the ass to do an oil change due to the lack of room 🙁

I want to relocate it.

I saw some generic ones, but it says it fits Fram filters.
I specifically use Denso 🙁

Well, the fram filters the generic ones use are huge! I'm sure you could get a motorcraft or napa gold filter for it. I think its a standard size for a for Ford 302 or similar.
 
I'm gonna end up purchasing one and instlaling it on my next oil change 🙂
I wouldn't want that pos to burst in the middle of a drive. 🙁
 
If you know the thread pitch and size of the mount on the engine block, you can use the generic ones and just get a thread adapter for the part that hooks up to the remote filter. Although going this route may yield the same price as the greaddy kit, you may be able to get a filter mount so you can use a bigger filter.

edit: I think the ford has the same thread size and pitch as the toyota. $50 for this kit: Transdapt oil filter relocation kit

the toyotas have a 3/4"-16 thread size and pitch, the same as some ford filters.
 
I used to do my own oil changes on my own cars, until I had to do one on my wife's Mustang. What a friggin PITA. So, I went to a place with a $10 oil change special. (this wasn't last week, btw, hence the lower price than you'd pay today) I realized at that point that for only 4 or 5 dollars more than what it costs me for the oil and filter, I could have someone go through all the hassle for me. I'd avoid the greasy hands. I'd avoid the extra trip to the store, and trip to the station to dispose of the used oil. It would save me time (which I find to be valuable sometimes). I haven't changed the oil since. Of course, I do have to ignore the mechanics telling me I need new brakes and rotors and my exhaust isn't rusted through yet, but I should get it replaced because it's starting to and.... every time I go to one of the chains that specializes in such stuff.

I've also found a drive-through oil change place in my area... just like driving into an automatic car wash. There's a guy under the floor and a guy above working together. An oil change there takes about 5 minutes - you don't even get out of your car. Plus, they'll put in whatever kind of oil you want. A few bucks more than the chains, but well worth it for the convenience - no appointments necessary either.
 
Until....one day ur driving down the street wondering what that burning smell is...oh wait..its oil flying out and burning on the engine block because the high school kid that changed ur oil forgot to put the cap back on.

Aren't they all like this except for Costco/Sam's Club? They're all over the place around here. Been like that for 15 years.

Except for the 5 minutes part. Plus I don't think you can stay in the car at the places around here.

yeah, until they perform a jiffy lube oil change on you...and your filter is clanking somewhere on the road 😀

Not that I would ever use it. Considering I spend almost $30 on supplies I'd rather just do it myself🙂
 
I would consider putting one of these on a stock car.
Makes changing the oil 8 billion times easier.
 
I use the LS430 filter on my IS300.
It takes forever to get the oil filter on as I have to snake it through to where the filter screws in.
I can't even tighten it because my forearms are too big.

Did you know that Toyota discontinued the Lexus V8 oil filter that's made in Japan? They replaced it with a lower-quality one. Time to stock up before dealerships run out.
 
dangerous.. if the kit messes up, u got no engine oil!!

eh, i only change camry engine oil, easy to reach. stupid pos civic and its filter are hidden up and behind the wheel area sorta.. %#@ design. the camry has it right up on top so u can reach it from the hood😛

It's no more dangerous than adding an oil cooler or other such accessory.
