I got an old car bucket seat once and just mounted it onto a wooden box, was a bit ghetto, but it was the bees knees when I was doing my racing games....

I've got a nice one which I bought a couple of years ago, for maybe about $200 - it has really nice leather, got it on sale at Office Max or Depot.

The leather has held up pretty well, the only issue is that very recently the hydraulic tube has been losing it's pressure and so the chair sinks down to it's lowest point now :(

Considering trying to fix it, seems like that's possible... or getting a new chair at some point.

I've got a 14 year old Hon chair I got at Office Depot. I got it for $189, down from $389. I learned years later the MSRP was $799. Today, an equivalent replacement from Hon would MSRP around $800-900.

I did recently by my wife a low-back office chair by Hon. It was custom upholstered and option and cost us $400, IIRC. We expect it to last more than a decade.

I wish I could buy an office chair for $200. We have to buy them from the Prison Industry Authority and a chair I could get at Staples for $100 will cost me $350 for a similar chair.

Love my steelcase chair. Never would have paid for it myself but my work paid for it. Think it retails for almost 900...crazy!

You should see the price of "24 hour" chairs. Some can be over a grand, and they're not THAT great. At those prices I would expect the chair to have a motor with GPS system so I just have to think, and it goes where I want to. The ones that are near the 2 grand mark should also have a USB interface that plugs into my computer and also types what I think.

But those are designed for moist areas such as basements are are Tapcon(R) approved for fastening to masonry surfaces.

I got a $300 mesh Aeron knockoff at Staples 5+ years ago and it's still going strong. For the amount of time you presumably spend in one, and the length of time a good one will last you, it's worth at least a few hundred bucks.

Stainless steel washer tubs make great burning barrels! :awe:

Any reason why you would rather breath the toxic fumes from pleather and foam burning than place it in the landfill ?

I used to always get cheapy $50-100 chairs and the cushion kept going bad or the pleather kept going to shit.

Decided to splurge one day on a $300 chair from Amazon. That was almost 3 years ago and I'm still using it today, perfect condition. You get what you pay for with those things.[/QUOTE]

I disagree with you there, I spent about £100 on my last chair and it lasted 4 years. If I buy a £400 chair I seriously doubt it is going to last 12 years. As with everything you get to a point of diminishing returns. Sure if you buy bargain basement stuff it is going to fail quickly however spending 10 times as much does not guarantee 10 times longer lifespan.

If your cushion is the only problem have it re upholstered. You can pick the most expensive space age foam you want and tell the seamstress how you want it done. I don't imagine it would cost much, especially if you buy the materials.

You will not be able to roll the seat on your own in a proper way. You should ask the specialist who makes this. So, foam+fabric+work= the same amount of cash as you will pay for a new comfortable professionally created seat.

It's far better to have a few short minutes of burn and particles that fall to the ground than to have materials buried that won't break down in a lifetime.

A proper burn barrel with forced induction or good ventilation (such as a washer tub) burns much cleaner than say your typical hillbilly barrel with a few .45 inch (hehe) holes in the side for breathing. When the fire "pulses" it's because it's starved for air. It's truly amazing how fast things get consumed in a proper set up. With lots of embers at the bottom one could stuff a body in and it would be gone in no time. ;)

The only pity here is all the heat escapes. If we captured it to make steam it could do some useful work around the farm.

I've been using 10 dollar fold open chairs from Walmart for years now.

Not actually comfortable, but once you get used to it, you don't notice.

Why? Because most people are spending an office budget on them and it's not coming out of their own pocket.
