why are most forums run republican-style despite their democrat leanings?

in my years on the internet i have noticed a trend. most of the internet forums i habitate have noticeable democrat leanings amongst their denizens and leadership, but the way in which these forums are run is primarily republican-style.

for example:

- forums are owned by successful wealthy capitalists or capitalist ventures, or are associated with the products or services of a large corporation
- the purpose of the forum is primarily an income stream for the owner
- forum leadership and denizens typically do not have an adequate minority representation
- forum leadership is not directly chosen by the populace, but by the general representation of the other leaders (who were chosen by the owners)
- low or no taxes on forum denizens (though some forums charge a fee, and some well-to-do denizens donate money to the forum sometimes in exchange for benefits or favors)

i had noticed some other similarities too but i cant remember them all. still, i definitely see more of a republican lean in the style of leadership which is an interesting development in my assessment of forums and one which i will certainly continue to observe and report on in the future.

Of course there are some distinctions... we're not shackled to the forum, our participation is voluntary. Try telling that to your government. Also... we've no 'skin' in the game, no money invested... aside from our time. Is that a 'value' that gives us a 'right'?

thats a great idea, i will start working on that promptly
 
some of my current proto-thoughts on boomerangs suggested topic for my new research:

- forums may be a good medium for testing government and we should try all different models of government on forums
- forum COCs are analagous to real life laws, but forums rarely have a document specifying why they exist ala constitution/declaration of independence. does this imply they are more totalitarian in nature?
- money is the grease that moves everything in the world
- men, above all else, desire power

i think i have enough to start writing a whitepaper

Isn't it quite clear though, we have 'bosses' here and if they're not happy with the results we get the 'pink slip'.

Moreover, not many folks are taking the subject seriously. Shame, cause there might be some political topic to be found about human nature. Forums are not bound by any bill of rights. Of course we're also not bound to them. Makes it a rather causal affair then, where mods run wild in the 'streets' and we just try to stay out of their way.

absolutely, i think every political topic tells us something very deep and personal about ourselves, if we look hard enough.

The comparison can hardly be made, people living under feudalism COULD find somewhere else to go... but that wasn't so simple as clicking a mouse button. You greatly risked your life to travel or move. I'm afraid internet users do not share that risk.

Since when are rules Republican only? Republicans are differentiated by the types of rules: Small-minded, racist, echo chamber, self-centered morally relative ones.
