I'm the dairy/frozen manager of a mid-sized grocery store. Each day affords me the opportunity to encounter all manner of ethnicities. Our store is most frequented by East Indian, British and Italian customers.

Over the past three years of employment I have noticed one thing above all others: Older Italians, those in their late forties and up, are the single most belligerent, obnoxious, and rude of the lot.

What gives?

I agree with the fact that most older Italian folks tend to be arrogant and even a pain in the azz ...

But the French are 10x worse ...

I remember a couple months ago..my cousin and I stopped at a pizza place in NYC for lunch b/c chinatown was closed due to the power outage. Most everyone in the restaurant was white...and these two chinese guys came in (I think trying to order some pies)..their english wasn't great (ok..it sucked)..and they were having trouble communicating with the people who worked there..and this one cook guy who's old and Italian started yelling at them and basically told them to leave. so they left...and this guy starts cursing them out under his breath...(in broken english, mind you) that "damn people should learn to speak some english".

My cousin and I looked at each other and was like "wtf?!?!"

so yea...bah.

I don't know about rude, but I can vouch for a large percentage of their households being LOUD. Maybe there's a connection there.

They're rude because they are all part of the mob and would kick your ass if you looked at them funny.

They demand discounts on everything.

They roll their eyes and mutter under their breath when they don't get their way.

They walk in, take a handful of peanuts, and leave the shells all around the store.

They always argue with their spouse in front of other customers.

They point with their fingers.

"why are americans so fat?"

Actually, that would be a good generalisation. ;)

Hey, I don't know what's up with Italians! I mean you could ask the same: Why are Italians loud, abrasive or smooth-talkers? Sometimes these traits work to one's advantage; other times, it's annoying. Maybe the impoliteness helps them do well with business . . . or maybe the women are rude because their men saddled them emotionally. All I know is, I would never endorse anyone or business that's impudent. Maybe that's why I'm still anguishing thinking that I have to adjust to aggressive people when the inevitable happens (i.e., I move to NY)! Ah, I'm sure I'll do well and just forget that I am not a part of them . . . similar to the AT audience. Haha! :D

P.S.: It's true, French people can be sooooooooooooooooooo rude! Ugh! At least Italians can be jovial . . . so you get both sides of them, whereas the French are just plain uninteresting. All right, I admit I have engaged in generalisations here, but I don't see it causing harm to the respective parties. ;) Hey, don't you guys have stereotypes about the British having bad teeth and being stuck-up? So . . . as I was saying . . . why are the French men womanisers? Ah, . . . and of course the lovely Italian men--the king of womanising, who know how to be flamboyant--unlike the French men! ;)

Most Italians I know are nice people, though some have the "tough guy" attitude.

Not surprised.

In my experiences, I've found a few things out about race:

1. Eastern Europeans are the most ruthless, argumentative, and cutthroat people I've ever come across. I'm certain it has to do with the communist environment they gfrew up in, and the consequent need to fued and hussle for every scrap and morsel.
2. West Indians come in a close second, but what reason I have no clue.
3. Philipinoes are the most culturally bankrupt "easterners" that exist. I put that in quotes, because they might as well not even be eastern. Sadly, they were one of the few countries to completely lose their indigenous culture upon colonization, in their case, by the Spanish. Where I'm from, the philippinos act, live, and suffer from the same social dysfunction that the blacks and hispanics do. It's quite shocking, really.
4. Indians are, along with the asians, one of the most biting anti-black people around.
5. Whites and blacks are both innocent and guilty of exploiting the power dynamic of racism

And finally.....

6. Racism isn't some sad happenstance, but an integral and inevitable part of the human existence. As such, someone, be it black, white, green, or yellow, would be on the bottom of a social heirarchy in each and every permutation of social evolution that could have occured.
