Why are iPod's and iRivers, etc so expensive?

I'd like to get one, but they are like $250 US minimum. I can't even get an iPod Mini in canada.

ipod's price is due to supply/demand and excellent marketing.

They are selling more than they make at $250; there is no incentive for them to make them cheaper.

You're free to buy any other MP3 player with more memory and features, but you won't be cool like us. :)

Also, the Ipod mini uses a 4gb microdrive which retails by itself for almost double the price.
 

I got a 20 GB Archos Jukebox for $99 after rebate. I don't care about my mp3 player's form factor or coolness, so if you time it right with a hot deal, you can get one for cheap.

'cuz people will buy them at that price.

if no one bought them, they'd probably lower the price.......but that's not happening anytime soon.
