Why are fast food places so damn stingy with condiments?

Man I hate that. LJS gives me two things of sauce for my fish, and I get 3 things of ketchup from BK for a big thing of fries. It didn't used to be like that. :frown:

Anyway, on the topic, I work in a fastfood place, and my manager doesn't like to hand out more than whats neccessary. Its to save costs of ordering more supplys, which in turn, could make the store look better to the real owners and give him a larger bonus.

If they're worried about saving a few $$ on condiments, then why don't they all buy ketchup pumps like most of the McDonald's locations? Use the pumps for inside customers and give out ketchup packets for those going through the drive-thru. I'm sure ketchup is much cheaper when buying it in a can vs. all of those small packets.

Here at the Chickfla they give out handfuls of condiments. What they did stop doing is leaving out the mints where the condiments are. I used to take a lot of them...... :D

I usually find places to be stingy with their condiments in 'bad' neighborhoods. Like this one Taco Bell had a sign that said it was 5 cents per extra packet. While in other neighborhoods, they sometimes have a whole pile out in the open for your to take.

Bingo.

They're free. Don't bitch. If you want more, tell them you will be happy to pay for them.

It gets expensive. On food, the margin is very small. Like maybe 10%. A packet of sause costs between 3 and 15 cents each. (Ketchup was $30 for a case of 1000 packets, honey mustard was 15 cents each where I used to work.)

If you bought a 5 piece from wendys, and asked for an extra honey mustard, then the store just lost about 5 cents on the deal.

I always ask for extra if I will use them.
all those stupid little pennies add up.

My not going back to the place will cut into their profit margins too. I see it as part of the price of the meal. It's like getting a half-filled drink.

Your dissatisfaction and subsequent return patronage or lack therof is not a line on some accountant's ledger somewhere.

Oh God no! They charged you for the cup they gave you. Those bastards!!! FYI, the cups cost more than the liquid you put into them.

Yes, water should be free. They used the small cheap plastic cups too, which they don't get charged for by the pop company.

In my experience cups come from cup manufacturers not the soft drink distributers. Maybe it's different at different places/regions but that's been my experience.

Yes, getting water for free is a nice hand out. But w/the economy in the sh*tter and companies scrambling to increase revenue I have no problems paying a quater if that means peoples' hours aren't gonna get cut anymore than they probably had been. It's $0.25. Not that big of a deal.

Keep in mind that we (consumers) didn't ask the fast food companies to overbuild to the point there is extremely fierce competition. If they are only making 10% profits, then it was only done by their own making. It wasn't the consumers who asked to have a McDonald's restaurant on every street corner.

Also, when the economy is bad, fast food companies don't suffer all that much. People need to eat. People can go without other things in their lives if they have to - but, food isn't one of them.

Because they are expensive and people just waste them. When I worked at McDonald's, people wanted 2 packets of sauce for each nugget.

Lately I've been getting that too. Every place I go I order like the superjumbomegadoublegallon of iced tea and ask for sweeter. They hand out like 1-2 packets. I always have to ask for more. The quantity of condiment/additive needs to be proportional to the products volume :D
