Why are doctors NEVER on time?

I had a 3pm appointment at the dentist. I arrived at 2:45pm, filled in the paperwork, then waited till 4:30pm before the doc called me in.

I hate doctors for this. Would it kill them to be more punctual? It's not like they work for free.

:disgust:

the problem isn't the doctor, it's the patients. Doctors slightly overbook because a given percentage of patients no-show, and then if the first patient is 5 minutes late or needs more attention, it snowballs throghout the day

dirty secret with doctors and dentists are that they double book their appointments to see more patients and make more money. They know a certain percentage of the patients will miss their appointments so they want a backup. If both show up for the appointment one will have to wait.

yeah i agree.

the local clinic has it if you are 10 minutes late they cancel you. even though they won't get you in for another 40+ minutes.

My favorite is when you sit in the waiting room for 1/2 hour, nurse calls your name, puts you in a room and says the doctor will be right in and it's another 1/2 hour-45 minutes before he shows up.

Here's a tip for you: always snag the first appointment in the morning or the first one after the doctor/dentist's lunch hour. First one doesn't wait. 🙂

Because a new patient(s) with 3 chronic diseases came in before you and put the doc behind schedule.
Because management over schedules just like airlines do. Some patients only take 4 minutes. Some take longer. Remember when medicine was not only about the provider's production rate?
Because the pre screen by nurses takes longer than front end knows. If they understand the appointment and its needs, they will schedule 15 minutes extra before the appointment, giving the nurse time to pre screen.

Make your appointment before noon if you can. Less chance of sitting around waiting for them.
