Question Why are developers making software stupider?

I had been using Handbrake on an older install of Linux Mint and it worked great. I am not sure what version is was. I tore that system down to do an upgrade so it is gone. I finally got around to installing Mint on a laptop. I downloaded Handbrake version 1.5.1. I fire it up and realized that the Advanced settings option had been removed. There are a bunch of presets but you can't make your own anymore. I went back to version 1.1.2 which from what I read was the last version with the Advanced setting option. I looked at the presets and they all were way lower quality than I used. So what possible reason is there to remove the flexibility to make your own preset? I ended up getting 1.1.2 installed but it was a pain.
