Why are CTS-Vs so cheap?

Because the model year that replaced it is supercharged and has 150 more hp. Everyone is dumping their old model for the new.

2004-2005 -> 5.7L LS6 400 HP
2006-2007 -> 6.0L LS2 400 HP
2009+ -> 6.2L LSA 556 HP

The 5.7L ones are going to be cheap, just like the GTOs. Everybody wants the 6.0 or even the LSA.

I'm starting to kick around the idea of a replacement for the Subaru, since I won't really need AWD anymore. It's still a fun car, but now that RWD will be ok year-round, my options are a bit more open.

Looks like I'd want an 09+, though, which is going to be way out of my price range.

Not like an '05 is slow or anything. Bet it would give your Subaru a run if not yank it. 😛 And that's before the cam, intake, exhaust, tune, and bottle :awe:

lol true. I don't know anything about the LS6 - maybe I need to start reading. The Subaru is turbo/injectors/fuel pump/tune away from a lot more power, too. 😛 Then I'll start breaking transmissions...

cam = $
turbo, injectors, fuel system, blah blah blah = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

:sneaky:

As exdeath said, building an LS6 is not expensive compared to a turbo car.

Everything go ok with infinity?

Because their warranty are up and they realize how much it will cost to repair/maintenance will cost out of pocket for them.

Another reason is I've heard the rear diff is weak and you can break it on stock power levels. I would imagine there are upgrades, I do know it's not the cheapest thing to repair. How much, can't say.

09 also got a massively upgraded interior, previous model felt fairly cheap but obviously will be better than whats in the Subaru.

It's an American car...

wow, what an incredible reason to avoid a CTS-V! :roll:

the 05 ain't a bad car, but yeah the 09 is a whole different beast 😀

That was the first thing I thought of too.

Just look up old Mustang Cobras. For instance I've seen several 1999 year model Cobras that were selling for no more than their normal GT counterparts, but the newer Terminators hold their value well.

We'll probably see the same thing with 2010 Mustang GTs. Well, unless the transmission issues makes the 2011 a car to avoid.

This one is not "cheap", but it is far from stock as well... Currently for sale, built at the shop I work at.

The rear end went 600 miles after the owner picked it up from the shop the first time, so the guys reinforced it and now it is seriously strong. We get guys calling about it all the time, but they are all tire kickers. The owner doesn't really know much about cars, he just brought the car in and said make it powerful. Now he wants to sell it and buy something more "flashy". Kind of a waste of money, but he has plenty to through around...

Looks seriously overpriced IMO. Mods don't add value to the car. If you want to extract some money from it, return it to stock and sell the parts separately. If not, price the car very close to stock and be willing to eat the loss of the mods. The owner did the mod for his enjoyment sake. Now he's trying to have his cake and eat it too IMO.

$18k seems reasonable, in fact I wouldn't pay more than $20k for that car. It's still six years old, even if it is a high performance car. A Mustang GT with more HP can be had brand new off the lot for $29k.

The CTS-V doesn't have the collector value of say, an M5, and won't command the same prices.
