Why are corporate people such big babies?

Red Squirrel

No Lifer
So like early in October someone called our help desk and they did not handle the call very well and kinda screwed up. things did not get done right away etc... so yeah, our mistake as an IT team. They got told etc and all is done.

Meanwhile, people here (the customer) are STILL complaining about that incident. They're making a HUGE deal. I mean seriously. GET OVER IT! LET IT GO!!!

People in this company have nothing better to do then complain about IT. Everytime something like this happens they'll drag it on forever as if it was the end of the world.

Anyone else who works in IT ever notice this?

Let me explain to you how this works. You see, the corporations finance Team America. And then Team America goes out and the corporations sit there in their, in, in their corporation buildings and, and and see that’s, they’re all corporationy, and they make money. Mhm.

It's never IT's fault, you should know this. A good helpdesk person will find a way to make it the users fault.

At least your IT owned up to it. I work in IT and I can't beleive the number of self inflicted f'ups our staff have caused our end users. And the worst part of is that they try to sweep it under the rug or deflect it towards someone else.

yes

This is common in any exec position. They get used to being pampered and people trembling with their every word. I'm pretty much known for taking so much flack on it and then says "LOOK, THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED, LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED ANYTHING ELSE."

I used to have a theory that if you sat behind a desk made of wood, the fumes from the wood stain would turn you into an asshole.

That's just people in general.

The first mistake was admitting fault. Obviously, they should have either blamed Microsoft or the user.

What's more fun than blaming IT for everything?

Well...bashing the vendor or contractor of course!

"What's this meeting with IBM for?"
"It's a 4 hour vendor bash, should be fun! Wanna come?"
"I am so there"

The IT guys in my place are pretty decent.

Twice I’ve gone to see them in person and they’ve agreed to start work on my requests right away. Only once have they refused to prioritise my work and quote their ridiculous SLA – nothing an escalation to the Head of Group Programmes couldn’t sort out. ^_^

EDIT: Though I should probably mention, these requests were with regards to new servers and blade PCs being built/commissioned for my dev team, not helpdesk faults.

welcome to corporate america...

Its never YOUR fault, its always YOUR partners fault. 😛

But yes, the IT department gets the most flames next to accounting.
And sadly unless your corp is an IT corp, its the first department to get a cut.

Don't you guys just love it when a user calls because they don't know how to use a program or do their job, e.g. write a certain report?

It easy to blame and whip the IT dept. Most people don't really know what goes on in that department, or think they know better, and just assume if they wish for the world IT can and should always deliver
