OP this is probably going to shock you, but be glad she only wants a Coach, there are other designer hand bags that are in the thousands.

Not too unreasonable. I think you're gettin off easy to be honest. Like the other poster noted, the same can be said of video cards. "Some cost $200, some cost $500. wat the fuck?" 🙂

Plus, it's a status thing that other women will notice.
 
They should start making purses out of the skin of fat people. Since fat people don't do anything, their skin is soft, and perfect for use in fine clothing and accessories. All that needs to be done is a good an thorough cleaning to get the grease and stench off, and you'll have a fine product for sure. Everyone knows this.

The problem with middle-class America is that they accumulate bullshit like this that they can't afford in an attempt to appear richer than they are. Why can't people just be happy with what they have? I will never understand the desire to own overpriced trendy junk like this.

Just about everything boils down to fashion, I know a dude who dropped 50k on a BMW a few years ago, he's already had some decent problems with it. His brother has a Corolla which cost him like 13k and it's been a far more reliable car than his bros BMW. People spend a lot of money on things they really don't need to because it makes them feel better. And Appearance is important, my sisters boy friend is a real estate agent and if he drove a Corolla no potential clients would take him serious. Sad but that's how a good portion of this country thinks.

I'd say a $500 hand bag's a steal compared to a 50k car, but maybe that's just me...

Better how? they break down more, they cost more to fix, sure they ride smoother and have navigation and extras. But they're a horrible value if you factor in how much they cost to buy and how insanely expensive they are to maintain. A Coach bag has zero upkeep costs. BMW's and mostly any other luxury car are status symbols and nothing else.

And to OP FYI: she wants a coach hand bag not a purse, when you're talking a designer item that's hundreds of dollars it's not a purse 😉

Seemed like some where a good deal on Top-Gear... but that's for speed, handling and overall enjoyability. if 50k is less than 15% of your annual income then the extra money is probably not to big of a deal; value is relative to income.
 
Because women, even at an older age, are obsessed with status symbols such as a Coach purse. Now, I'm not saying this is specific to women, since there are men who obsess over similar items, but women, whether teenagers or fully grown, are somehow conditioned to love Coach products. It's all a game and Coach is laughing all the way to the bank.
