I was selling a rusty Chevy pickup with a plow,last year.

I advertised it as being Rusty,having an V6 engine,5 speed,and an 8 foot plow.

I had a lady call and ask what the truck looked like,if it had any rust,and
if it was automatic.

I asked her did you read the ad??

Last year I also advertised my 1967 Camaro,427 Big block,engine,
4 speed with a note in the ad NO test drives!

Of course I got three kids wanting to know if my car was Fast,and wanting to take my car for a fast test drive. 🙂

From my experience, it is MUCH eaiser to sell a car in the $1000 price range. There is much less haggling and nitpicking. People buying cars for these prices know what they are getting into. Most people will just want something that runs and drives with an inspection sticker. If you have a make and model they want, should not be too hard to sell.

In the $4500->7000 range, many people are expecting a very high quality car, and they are trying to stretch their money as much as possible. People will be picky about everything. Also, a lot of people will be selling new cars they can not afford to get something around this price...

I would have questioned the "warm it up" part, too.
I would have immediately become suspicious that it's hard to start when it's cold, if it idles poorly, etc.

It had been sitting for a week. There was nothing I was trying to hide. Obviously, I wanted to make sure it started up and my wife didn't do something stupid like leave the dome light on or something.

Edit-The car was 10 years old with 120k miles on it. Obviously, it isn't going to run like a new car and I wanted to make sure he didn't do anything stupid with it like romp on it with a cold engine. I literally drove it around the block.

I put my car in autotrader. It was advertised for the first time last Thursday, it was gone on Saturday for my asking price. If you haven't already, the $40 for an advertisement is really worth it.

No, I didn't get lucky. There was nothing wrong with the car...how many fvcking times do I have to say that? :roll: In hindsight I guess it was a suspicious of me to do but it wasn't in any way me trying to hide a problem. The car didn't burn any oil, had good comression in all cylinders and there were numberous things I had recently replaced on the car. It was very clean.

He even had his mechanic check the car over before he bought it.
 
Please ship me the car first, then I'll send payment....

Don't let the drunk guy drive your car.......... he'll wrap it around a pole...... I've seen that happen with my buddies car back in high school......... kid ended up having to pay for the car....... even though it was totalled! haha
 
The idiots dont get worse with a crappy car... they get worse with an expensive car...

A buddy of mine was selling his 1998 Dodge Viper GTS... Everyone wanted a "test drive" and to sit in it... and to go for a ride... and oh, they couldnt make payments, needed to sell their Jaguar that is in storage first, etc. etc. etc...

BLECH!

I bet! If I was selling a car like that I'd have to demand a $50, totally non-refundable. Anybody seriously in the market for it would not be against $50, and would understand the reason.
