Why are Audigy 2 drivers so complicated?

I'm at Creative's site right now looking at the files to download to have the latest drivers for my Audigy 2. Why does Creative split them up into so many files. Why not one big file instead? Also, it seems like you still have to have the original CD -- some of the files (EAX Console, Speaker Settings, and Surround Mixer) won't install because I'm "missing" componenets.

That's just frigging rediculous! I just want to be able to download one big file and double click it to install the basic set of drivers and control panels. Why does Creative make it so hard?

Creative has struck me as having gone downhill in the last few years. I remember once having to wait in a queue on their website in order to download drivers. Bleh.

The Auto Update feature only installs the Soundbank Manager. It doesn't detect anything else to install. So, I have to manually install the rest.

However, I still can't manually install the Surround Mixer, EAX Console, and Speaker Settings. When I double click the installed files, it says it cannot find certain components and aborts the installation process. Does this mean I have to find my stupid original driver CD and install those components first before being able to update the drivers and utilities to the newest version? What a pain in the a$$!

No wonder people bad mouth Creative Labs! Why can't they just frigging have one big file to download that will automatically install this!!?!? Arrrghh!:|

Here's what to do:

Download all the "update" versions of the software you want to install, including the driver.

Download WinRAR. Install.

Once installed, right click on the upgrade packages that you download. It will give you an option to extract with WinRAR. Do so.

Manually run the setup program that got extracted. They just overwrite the complete package anyway, so all files are there. No need for creative CD whatsoever.

Works for me on my Audigy.

Edit : Although without a doubt, as a user you shouldnt really have to do this in the first place.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

I also am having trouble doing this. I did extract the files using WinRAR, but the new setup still says required components not found. I was able to find a 2.0 Mixer that installed using this trick, but the 3.x isn't working.

You've always needed the original driver CD to install updates from Creative. Same with ATI video cards and their DVD player program.

Wha? Did you run the setup in the extracted folder? It does work without the CD.

Because everyone bitches that Creative doesn't give them the option to only download and install what they need. Now, the option is available and people are still bitching.

I've been using Creative since their SB 128 and never had driver issues. Now I have a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS Gamer and its working out better than I thought. Just calm down 😛

I'm having the same problem. WinRAR doesn't do squat for me - it still says 'required components not found' when trying to install the Speaker Settings program as well as the EAX Control Panel. I called Creative support as well as emailed them and they both tell me the same thing: $9.95 for replacement CDs.

Bollocks.

Does anyone know of any resources out there where you can download the full versions of the programs that will actually work without having the original CDs?
